Now i've noticed alot of signatures, userbars and tags showing up against serverside modding. Is there a coalition going on like the FANTASTIC Spam/Kiwi/Pirate coalition? and if so, whos the leader, and what are you guys fighting against? kthxbi

We are fighting those that take the great mod called FH and turn it into an abomination, in a way they think its "better", with no respect to the developers wishes.

We have no leader, we are the anti-serversidemodders, resistance is futile.

It might be necessary to explain why I use that signature. Since there is no coalition that is fighting against anybody I can only speak for myself.

Since a while some people out there have the habit to edit maps serverside and host them on their gameservers without letting the average player know that something has been changed.

There are two different types of ServerSideModding

1. Maps get modded serverside to fix bugs or serious balancing issues. 2. Maps get modded serverside to fit them the tastes of the guys who do that without a real necessary for something to be changed.

The first thing could actually be a good thingto do because even if a map gets tested 100 times, testers might overlook some bugs. Also hardly any map gets tested with as many testers than it gets played with on public servers. There is always the possibility that a well tested map turns out unbalaced on full servers. If there is the possibility to fix such issues serverside, why not do it? But mapmakers or other guys responsible for the release of that map should be asked for permission first. Doing that will make sure nothing gets changed that was inteded to be like it is. Also it would be a nice thing to share those serverside patches with other people who run a server. Because if something needs to be fixed it should be fixed on all servers, not only one.

Sadly it seems that people who mod serverside at the moment do the second type ofServerSideModding. Things get changed without any necessity. It looks like those people just want to have more and better equipment to have more fun and to make the game more arcade. Infact, with their modding, they are changeing the gamplay to something that has never been intended by mapmakers or mods. With that they give people who don't know that those things have changed a totally wrong impressio of the maps, mods. Besides that, those people don't give a shit about the developers opinion and just keep doing what they want. Even a short mention, that the stuff has been modded serverside, in the servername or through ingame messages seems to be to much to be asked for.

Actually my opinion differs a bit from what has been aksed to do. I think if they do such drastically changes without any needs, they should release a own mod that includes those changes. If they are really that good and people really like those changes they can go play that mod and leave the the people who want to play FH the way it supposed to be alone. I guess many FH players would be happy.

That's why I say:

ROFL, the puppies one is hilarious.

I have to say Knoffhoff's post was right on the money. Server side modding to fix problems is one thing (say a vehicle locked out for the wrong team). But adding a dozen KTs just cause they like them is stupid, and disrespectful of the teams hard work. If they want to mess around on their own computer and do that, I say have at it. But on a public server, that's just plain wrong.

As the map balencer for BG I can understand this more so. If someone ruined my carefully balenced maps like that'd I'd be pretty irate (unless they fixed one the maps I had trouble balencing, then I'd give them credit and incorporate it into the mod, but that never happens).

I know when the HDTP server ran BG they did some minor server side stuff (adding a single Stuka to Op MG), and that was annoying, but not major. Apparently now they are doing more extreme stuff as I understand it...

Are there any other big server that are doing this?

Also, I'm curious as to the FH teams position on the matter.

Actually two of the most populated servers in europe are doing server side modding. On some maps they change more on other maps less. But anyways, all changes that I recognized so far changed gameplay drastically.
