Hi all

I was playing through FH.7 recently and was wondering how do you plan to use ships in FH2?

I can understand having destroyers and aircraft carriers in the game but is it worth adding battleships?

It seemed like a waist adding hood and Bismarck to FH1 as the only map they are in was never used online and naval combat seemed quite unpopular anyway. I guess it would make more sense to keep the carriers as stationary objects on certain island offense maps like bf2.

My other question is about the explosion and gun effects. One thing in bf1942 and bf2 to a certain extent is how terrible the explosions are. My favorite feature in FH was the way gun fire from tanks, ships etc and explosions were done fantastically :D ballistics were redone so well and the way the ground got ripped up and the loud bangs from these weapons made things so much more satisfying.

I know things have been altered to a certain extent in FH2 but is there any plan on chucking all the bf2 explosions out the window and redoing it to the standard of FH1 (or better =p)

Thanks

Disagree, the map wasn't popular but it was in the mapcycle of nearly every good server. It was one of my favourites btw

i guess devs fisrt want to get a good hold on ground and air in normandy untill then i doubt you will see any ships although it has been worked on on the past from time to time and some devs are quiet optimistic that actual sea battles might be possible. however as usual dont expect anything and dont expect it soon.

And about sound effects, well they are constantly worked on, i love the sound of the tiger and all the new Italian weapons, i m pretty sure you will enjoy them too. Germanbratwurst is tweaking and generating sounds all the time and if the devs like them they will be put into the game.

However my guess is sounds have a lower priority than models & maps. a sound can be added/changed later very easily while a model/static or map change takes quiet some time.

While i hardly ever played the map i do love naval combat and find it interesting.

Ive got no problem with naval combat taking a back seat at the moment anyway. I would love to see the African and other theatres perfected before anything else :nodding:

and [FtN|GT] Die Happy, while i do think the sounds need to be louder i feel revamping the whole BF2 explosion and mussel effects to something more realistic like FH1 would be well worth considering for a future release :naughty:

Aye. Rhineubungaroo was the very first FH map I ever played online on a public server. I'd never seen it before because you couldn't play it in co-op or SP, so I joined the server expecting to be on an infantry/tank map and suddenly spawned on the Hood with all the guns blasting away and a Swordfish tearing past. After an initial "WTF is going on here?!?" moment the pure awsomeness of FH overcame me and I was hooked. I always loved that map, despite the glitches, and the fact that the server would usually crash when some tool rammed the ships together.

Static carriers would make sense in FH2 (in FH1, of course, you often had a game ruined by someone driving the carrier around at full speed so no-one could take off, or else beaching it or bringing it within range of shore-based AA). But no battleships? That would be a shame. Did you never play a good round of Rhinelburger on WOLF, when you had the battleship, destroyers and repair tenders all moving and fighting as a fleet? If the devs could recreate that in FH2...

We have several ships coded and working in FH2, including a carrier, corvette and U-boat.

From preliminary tests, they seem to work better then BF42's ships, and have improved collision and whatnot (you dont get bumped around while the boat is moving)

But yeah, there will definitely be some naval support and combat in the future.

How could anyone plan to recreate the battle in the pacific without battleships???

As we had a lengthy discussion in another thread, IMO moving ships are vital. Sinkable ships at that. You make a ship stationary and unsinkable you have lost the ability to maneuver to other targets that may need support all the while you're a sitting duck and if unsinkable, you are an indefinite target that can kill others but you yourself are invincible.

BTW - Rhienubung was my favorite map right after Midway. It was actually seeing the Bismarck and Hood in the vehicles section of the website that got me to download FH and you can bet it was the first map i tested out. It's a shame it was only in rotation with the other maps, very fun and very accurate. :)

@ McGibs, great stuff!

Wasn't there a map called Atlantic early in FH1? I remember playing an ocean map that was quite laggy, but not Rheinuebung.

A Pacific version would have been cool, too.

That sounds fantastic. I had no idea ships had already been tested in FH2. I didn't know Rhineubungaroo/Rhinelburger :nodding: was used in map rotation. Ive honestly never seen it played online.

So is McGibs the one i should be directing my explosion effect question too? :)
