ok guys... should i release a reduced trees version of tulagi? and thereby reduce the lag? or just fix the bugged flag, and update to better uniforms :). leaving the map as it is? some of you with faster computers like it, but those with slower computers cant play it. so i want to know which is the larger group, because i want my map to get played :) and want it playable by the majority of FH people :) i think the new version is nice and jungled, but its not as dense as the original by half, in terms of trees. i actually only removed the jungle trees, but left all the palms, and actually increased them by 25%. and there are more larger EOD style plants in the new version. (the huge jungle trees happen to be extra laggy compared to palms. four palms = one of the huge jungle trees, in terms of lag.) so the new version is still very jungled but has way fewer collision meshes (trees) so way less lag. ive posted pics in the other mappack threads, of the new map. so have a look and give some feedback :D

i can run the original version fine, but being a tanker i cant stand so many trees. and if it reduces lag for the lower end systems its a win-win situation. ps, wherez the poll? :P

i havo no problem runnig it in empty server mode - 9800xt, 234fsb, ~2ghz cpu and 1gb of ram - all settings max 8anizo 4aa 1280

but it all goes wrong after joining the server - i was dropped twice, along with others i think, because majority of players cant handle this map

map is gorgeous, but it lags, badly for most players

I'll have never actually played this map on a server, but it's so nice is spent almost an hour just walking around it alone. If it won't be much hurt by those ugly palms, I have nothing against the new version. The tank argument is irrelevant for me personnally at the moment, since I have screwed up my system so most of the textures (excluding e.g. vegetation) are messed up, including the tank sights. BTW I think tanks should have problems with jungle and forrests...

Yes, I think reducing the amount of trees is a good idea. I have P4 2600 MHz, Radeon 9600 Pro and 1024 Gb RAM, and I can barely play it with 30 players. With 50 players it becomes totally unplayable. Even bigger problem than lag on that map is the Tommygun whoring. Please remove the spawnable Tommygun class.

Mandingo, either a) you have SLOOOW memory or 2) your motherboad sucks or 3) your P4 is really as inferior to the AMD processors as Pentium processors are said to be. LaDigue

madingos pc aint the best, but enough to play without lag with reduced videosettings.

i repeat my answer from another thread: i have an average system and all other maps run smooth or at least ok even with lots of ppl on it, but im afraid i cant say that about tulagi. my system: amd 2500+, 9700-pro, 1024 ddr-ram, latest bios, nforce2driver and catalyst. so i guess the problem is the map, not my system.

offline the map is free of any lag but online its unplayabale but its the best pacificmap for fh so reducing the lag is a good idea and if u have to cut down some trees u can borrow my chainsaw :D

What you could try, is to reduce the view distance to about half of what it is and change the terrain LOD to about 50 rather than 350 as you don't see much of the distant terrain because of the vegetation. Theres also a setting called GlobalLODPercent, that you might want to fiddle with, I'm not really sure how it works tbh though, try lower numbers I think.

I don't get any lag (A64 , X800XL , 1GB) and all the veg makes the map look better, so I say reduce it abit for the people with slow computers as it has too much veg in some places.

Cannot say Tulagi was any laggier than any of the other maps in the mappack. Played through all except Trois Ponts online last night, and Tulagi was if anything smoother than most of them on that particular server.
