Recently an update showed us some British smoke grenades. Are they the same thing as a signal grenade?
How will signal grenades work? Will they somehow "spot" everything inside the cloud they have? Or will it be up to the players to realize "there's something there, spray it with MG fire"? I was just rereading the FH2 info thread and wondered how these things will affect how the game works.
They were for the mappack mate. Although hopefully smoke grenades may be implemented into FH2.
I though smoke grenades where just there for cover and consealment, not giving command.
One of the main things I will find usefull about them ( and that's if they were implented ) would be on densly grown pacific maps, where planes and bombers can't spot targets on there own, smoke could do the trick.
Use them how ever you want but they have no "special" feature.;)
I would say the current somke gernades work best for concealment but I could see using some of the colored ones to throw one at an enemy vehicle or position and tell a pilot to bomb that position, as long as the somke you throw does not completely conceal your target.
The diaries and battlefield accounts I've read said that both the Axis and Allies in various theaters used everything multi-colored parashute flares to smoke nades to mark their OWN position and a diffrent color for the enemies.
The color of course changed every day so the enemy would not catch on and were more heavly used for marking your position so the airforce would bomb the other side. Of course the standard counter to this was as soon as you saw green smoke going up over your positions you start tossing green smoke too. And maybe set off some yellow smoke as well as tossing some towards the enemy. That way the airforce can't simply bomb the "non-green" smoke areas.
There's two types of smoke. Cover smoke (which is in the mappack) which is designed to sit low on the ground and spread out over a large area, obscuring view. There is also Signal smoke, which is usually colored and is designed to float into a high, thin, column so it is easily spotted from a distance.
FH2 will likely include both. Cover smoke is the most common, as it can be fired from many tanks, mortars, field guns, artillery peices, as well as thrown by soldiers. Signal smoke will probobly be available only to officers and scouts as means to add a visual confirmation on a target for friendly forces.
Can we have flare guns too? Ooh ooh!

And colored smoke just rewls, I just wish it weren't so random.
You did mention we'll have smoke projectors on appropriate vehicles, right? Right? *pokes McGibs*
Smoke on vehicles would be great, when Warfront made their first and only release on BF1942 their tanks had smoke as a secondary fire for the hull mg gunner, it was pretty cool, I was just happy to see tanks with smoke launchers that worked.
Flare guns would be awesome as well, I beleive BF1918 is going to be putting those in their mod as they've already modeled a german flare gun, so I could see FH doing it if they felt like it, that would be another cool addition, then the only thing i could ask for in FH2 is to deploy mg's like in DoD or RO but since that won't happen, smoke and flares could be all that I 'could' ask for, oh yeah and pushable field guns.
I hope that you FH2 devs will give smoke grenades some justice in FH2 then. :D I laugh everytime someone uses smoke grenades in BF2, they are useless and are only good for making people with weak PCs lag out. :P
Well I like the concept of the signal grenades, it'll be of great help to airmen
