Ok, first of all, this is in the discussion, rather than the suggestions, because i know what the DEVs have decided and i am just looking to see what the opinions are. i.e. a discussion.
So anyways(yes i know i can probbly dig up an old thread on this but i just wanna see what ppl think, not resume the flame wars), this is about the way sights are done in BF2, and by corollary, in FH2.
The devs have decided to use the same system as in BF2, which is a flat texture. I just thought i'd voice my opinion that.
Now, the key point here is, YES I understand that looking down the sights of your gun makes them look blurry, i just want to be perfectly clear that i understand that. But, for some reason, whenever i play BF2's mods(because this is the only game that features said sight system), and i use the sights, i suddenly feel like its 1995 and i'm huning robot hitler in Wolf3D. It seems to me that when i play things like Vietcong, or Red Orchestra, and when i aim those, they, you know, kinda feel like the gun is there, but when the texture sight comes up my gun disappears, and ive got a cardboard cutout.
This is in no way a slant at the work thats been put into FH, I dunno, its just been bugging me for a while in PR and PoE, and i thought i'd see what you guys think.
Most of PoE's sights are rly good though, i dunno, what did they do, did they just make them more animated?

I'm still wondering what the devs have done instead of the closing crosshairs in FH1. Will it take a long time to bring up ironsights, or have they included sway (something similar to BiA)? *crosses fingers*
A flat texture is a simplification and wrong, the BF2 sights have a 3d model for the front sight and a plane for the rear sight with a blurried texture. In strict sense it's more acurate as visual representation than the pure 3d ironsights, like the CoD2 one, because the later has not blurried parts.

Won't say that! Just have a look at all the very nice textures of the environment. You'll quickly be remembered which year we have ;)
According to the sights: I guess I know what you mean, althogh I never played RO. The human eye will blur the sights automatically (since you're focussing at the targets)! That's my opinion. So I'd be happy with chrystal clear iron sights. :) But it isn't a big problem for me to have those blur effects done by the game. Definately not that big issue.
ok that was indeed assholish, sorry not enough sleep and somewhat angry at the world.
I have red orchestra to, but i dont feel the ironsights there being that huge improvement over FH2, actually i have never tought about it. And bear in mind RO is a full game and have access to their own engine which of course give them a whole lot more possibilities than just modding the bf2 engine. (still i dont like the unreal engine at all but thats a different story).
TBH I really like the BF2 weapon sights. When you look down the sights of a gun, the back will get blurry because your focus is on the target. And Lobo is right... the BF2 sights are not all texture -- the forward sights are a real model. I think it feels right as long as the back texture is done correctly.
"TBH" (like people say nowadays :uhm:) I almost never use anything else than the iron sights in BF2. That is, when I still played it. That is, a year and a half ago. :p
