Ay oop people, I've been playing BF1942 online for a week or so and over the bank holiday weekend I managed to successfully download and install FH. At only the third attempt. I'm impressed, and I will from hereon utterly ignore BF1942 and follow only the true shining path to glory. Now despite being an ex-infantryman myself I find myself getting absolutely HORSED whenever I get online and try anything other than sniping. Is this down to my drunken ineptitude, my anything but youthful reactions, or my 1Mb internet pipe through a crap USB router and my location in Spain? Blokes run straight up to me and stab me to death while I'm firing what seem to be controlled bursts at them with an assault rifle. :( Is the all seeing eye what I want to be using to find multiplayer games? This clan business - they're people who arrange to play at the same time, usually on a private server but sometimes on a public, yes? Will that textures and sounds pack from Mr. Cheese and someone else make things even more laggy, or is that exclusively down to my system? Are there any other must have add ons for FH, or is it perfect as is? What are the performance/risk implications in disabling my virus killer and other non essential stuff while playing on line? Is it really dangerous to play these games without protection? Can we swear here? Will Rooney go to the world cup?

Hey Bert Preast, welcome to the FH forums.
Bert PreastIs this down to my drunken ineptitude, my anything but youthful reactions, or my 1Mb internet pipe through a crap USB router and my location in Spain?
All of the above? :p Try playing more on servers that have a low ping. The lower your ping the easier it usually is to hit stuff.
Bert PreastIs the all seeing eye what I want to be using to find multiplayer games?
Yep. I've been using it since like 5 years ago.
Bert PreastThis clan business - they're people who arrange to play at the same time, usually on a private server but sometimes on a public, yes?
Yes, that's right. It's much more fun playing FH with some guys you know, than with some complete stranger. And it's even better if you're using a voice communication program so you can talk to them.
Bert PreastWill that textures and sounds pack from Mr. Cheese and someone else make things even more laggy, or is that exclusively down to my system?
It didn't make it any more laggy for me, but I guess it could become laggier if you have a slow / old system.
Are there any other must have add ons for FH, or is it perfect as is?
Nope, I can't think of any.
What are the performance/risk implications in disabling my virus killer and other non essential stuff while playing on line? Is it really dangerous to play these games without protection?
I'm not sure on this one. I guess it can't do much harm turning your virus killer off while playing.
Can we swear here?
Not excessively. ;)
Will Rooney go to the world cup?
Don't think so.
Meh. I feel guilty sniping people to be honest. Mind, at least in FH I don't feel silly as the targets aren't bouncing about like a Zebedee convention that got spiked with speed.

Sniping is one of the best things about FH imo. I love the accuraccy of the bolt-action rifles. It's so satisfying taking down those two pixels moving across the horizon without him even knowing you're there... :)
As for clans - I have been invited to a few but they always seem to play/practice on days which I can't do or they require a set attendence. Instead I joined up with the Battle For Europe - World at War (BFE-WaW) campaign. [plug-mode] You get great cameraderie in you company and battles have a sense of planned purpose (unlike public play), they're also pretty flexible - battles are on Saturdays with the odd practice during the week but they are by no means compulsory. On the whole it's good intense fun :) [/plug-mode]
I didn't say I don't like sniping, just that it makes me feel guilty. Still, I'm sure I can cope. It's just that machine guns are better than sex, and I want one. :( Will your texture pack give me a big hit on the frame rate? Does it make any difference to the lag I get online? Am I right that I can still play against people who don't have the texture pack installed?
Dark grey text on a black
Oh, and I'll have a look at the BFE-WaW link. It sounds good for me - I'm married and work for a living so it's impossible to commit to set times and days but I can usually get a few hours in over the weekend.
Dark grey text on a black background, eh? Mmmm, lovely. :thumbs up:
I didn't make it!
Bert Preast Are there any other must have add ons for FH, or is it perfect as is?

Gah. This not posting more than once every 30 seconds is going to take some getting used to. Sorry. Still, +1.

Yeah, the texture/sound pack is compatible with online gaming/people who haven't got it etc. It doesn't give much of a problem in the frame-rate department but I guess it could on lower-end machines like Lightning said.
My machine's an Athlon 64, but as the last FPS I played before this was Wolfenstein 3D I've sort of neglected the graphics and the RAM a bit. Need to invest in a card and another half a Gig, really.
