I mean everything actually IS there. The standard FH fare of beautiful models and skins and the atmosphere you guys strive to acheive. Bayonets are finally in this version, HE rounds and smoke. It's all there! Yet for me something seems, just, not, there.

Some of you might remember me. I played religiously just like many of you when FH1 was in it's hey-day. I watched eagerly along with everyone else, hanging on every update, drooling over the pictures and thinking of the possibilities. I wanted like everyone else for FH2 to be all that it could be and all that we dreamt of.

So when it came out I was right in line with everyone else. This time though it all felt different to me, and I feel like I can't get 'into' it.

I have an amd 64 4000, 2.5g of ram and a GForce 8600gts 512mb vid card and yet I still feel this new engine runs like garbage. Something about it makes me feel disonnected from my actual toon. At times it feels stuttery as well.

This time around with FH2 I could understand that the bf2 map size is bigger? and at first I thought woo-hoo, but in reality I run, and I run, run some more, and run some more and I get owned by someone who probably is running an even better computer than me, and then i respawn and run, and run, and run, and I run some more, until I get to the area where the action is and get owned all over again.

I can understand what you're thinking now, 'well it's because you're new'. FH1 got alot of new folks the same way, the difference though is that this time around these maps just feel bigger, it feels like I'm running alot just to get to the action, which in part is killing it for me.

Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I need time.

I'm not knocking the mod guys, those of you who remember me know that I was a fanboy too, sticking up for FH on the news update sites, but I just can't explain it, I just can't get into the current product in spite of it's high quality content from an excellent dev team. I think I can chalk it up to the engine. BF2 never sat well with me.

Maybe Normandy will help get me back into it, I'm not sure, but it makes me a bit sad inside that I can't get into the mod after being such a loyal FH1 fan and excitedly watching and waiting for FH2.

P.S. Player numbers seem lower too :\ It seems at only certain times in the day are there north american servers avialable? What's up with that?

Anyhow, I don't want anyone to take things personal, maybe someone could enlighten me a little, maybe someone could pass on some BF2 tweaks? This engine doesn't sit well with me.

Peace guys.

Ah yea, dude. Keep in mind, the Desert is a vast open area. Its easier to die becasue alot of the time you must run across an open are stretching across the entire map. The Western front was always different for me. Obviously, its a different feeling. hedgrows, narrow roads, large cities, fields, farms, and alot more. Even vehicales have a different feel in France, Holland and etc. Even if they're the same very same vehicals that are on a desert map. Now, I'm affraid I'm gonna have to agree with you so far on how Fh1 just felt diffferent. Desert maps included, just doesn't feel like your traveling across the world to get to a flag. No way though am I putting down Fh2.. its to amazing :). But yea, they're completely different engines. So it is difficult to swap from one to the other. For me, Fh2 I just like to have fun, Fh1 I get way to competitive hehe. Anyway, I guess all we can do is wait to see what Normandy is like. Personally, I think its going to be amazing. Apple

Yeah see I feel exactly the same. The quality and the effort is seen put into the mod, but the BF2 engine just makes everything way too artificial somehow. I'm just hoping Normandy will relieve my FH1 needs.

To go long distances, I drive. Must faster that way. But 1 person per vehicle is a waste, (unless you're a squad leader). You gotta carpool. ;-) Or, wait to spawn until your squad leader gets near the flag zone.

Yeah. I don't think the north Africa setting is appealing to many, but I like tank battles and mobile warfare so its fun for me. The FH2 team also put in lots of opportunity for good close combat in villages and towns on the maps.

I like the squads and the communication interfaces. It really helps with the teamwork. I like working in fire teams and accomplishing goals with my squad members. When you have a good commander, (sadly, that is rare), its even more cool to see squads directed to accomplish the larger tasks.

For me, the realism is much improved over the 6 year old BF1942 engine. The FH2 teams attention to detail is great. I guess my 3 GHz Intel is a lesser system than SymZ, but it seems to have low lag... depending upon server, (I play it on medium high settings). My 2.4 GHz Quad Intel with ATI Crossfire cards is smooth with all high settings. I keep my system clean of lots of utilities running (like some of the systray stuff) and I don't have auto updates or music going; maybe that helps.

I never felt this. I loved fh1, but this is far better and I don't mean the graphics. Everything.

I love everything about FH2 more than FH1...except the friggin BF2 engine.

It just....STUTTERS! So so so much! and the movement feels like your guy is on rollerskates with triangular wheels that can't traverse branches on the ground....

But that's my only beef, and even it isn't the devs' fault. The teamwork is better, the game is actually more centralized around fighting (as opposed to people just screwing off in FH1 and never even going for caps), and systems like player controlled artillery/mortars work so much better. It's just better, period.

desert don't suck, but just getting boring.

i love FH2 except the stupid physics...

Fh2 is almost superior in game play to FH1 in all aspects, perhaps except the cool voice commands.
Tweak your video settings... for example disable AA and lower dynamic light settings, it will free up some FPS and bring you better "flow"
This time around with FH2 I could understand that the bf2 map size is bigger?

Maps are the same size Take these words from me, I am a die-hard FH1 player, still getting around to learn BF2 movements & actions, it takes time as the two engines are so different, but once you've mastered the controls (and learn the maps) and with the Normandy patch release, you will be one with this mod in the same way you were one with FH1 - this is a promise! :) just be patient and stick with us, dont be like those guys that dont play cos "they dont get as many fragz as in vanilla BF2" FH2 is different - evolved - from FH1, actually its FH1 enhanced, once you see the "FH" instead of the "BF2" you will know what I mean.. ;)

About map sizes: infantry maps felt bigger in FH1 because in BF42 you're always running. Try to navigate a FH1 map while walking all the time (shift key) and it'll suddenly feel bigger than a FH2 map (BF42 walk speed is lower than BF2's).

Also, in FH2 there are far less jeeps/kubels per map, and in FH1 cars could do stunts like jumping full-speed from a 30 meters cliff and still survive (without even losing speed, if you were lucky), so you got much faster to destination.

Bigger maps (4x basic size) can be coded for FH2, but they cause so many mapping problems and performance issues that no one released any so far (AFAIK). They might appear for some naval or air map in the future, though (too many issues to make ground maps at 4x size IMO).
