swatoaQuestion: what makes the filesize of FH so freakin' large?

That is because EA never gave the community an rfa packer that compresses anything, the bf1942 rfas are.

Ohioan Just use a damn download manager. Don't inconvenience everyone else because your connection can't stand a large download. Multiple files are pains in the asses and add a lot of confusion to installing.
I've used several "damn download managers" too, but even if the filesize was always the same - some downloaded files worked and some produced an improper texture or sound file!
A single archive ensures that no files can be installed in the wrong order, no pieces can be lost or forgotten to be downloaded, and there's no queueing in Fileplanet for 2 or 3 files when 1 is plenty.

FH can't be installed in the wrong order, you just need some working files in the fh folder.

And fileplanet isn't the only place in the world where you can download FH - I've nerver waited or registerd for a download!

You can use GMake RFA to compress the files - but its very slow (around 20h for 600 MB). I've tested it with the FH game.rfa, you can compress it from around 3 MB to 200 Kb.

Don't know why the FH devs didn't use it for those more or less little files, which don't need a lot of time for compressing.

If you have corrupt files after any download, that is not the fault of the FH team. That is a hardware issue on your side or a file issue on the server side, either way it would not be any concern of the FH team as to why its happening. Theoretically you should be able to download 8 gigabyte files without any corruption. If you can't, then your computer may be fragged.

Download on a friend's computer or use the File Integrity option on FlashGet. I can't reccomend FlashGet enough. It's such a good program.

First of all why are you woorying about size of DL?

Second they have to release it to find out the size of DL. Third how do you they will release it at all, could be blowing smoke up your butt? Fourth probably have problems like .5 to f or whatever it was, .6, and .61. Fifth you have been waiting all summer for it anyway why not a few months more? Sxith they are ready to sell you merchandice?

Certainly that was not the fault of the FH team, but I've heard about a lot of people in forums who had problems with the files and the solutions was often to reload some part and that's very disturbing if you have a filesize of 700 MB or more.

I used to suffer random file corruption. At the last release the BT link would not finish, and i ended up getting part of it from fileplanet. Since then i've identifed some corrupt cells in one of my memory sticks. Since the removal of that stick i have zero corruption issues now. Worth checking out if you are having troubles.

I had the same problem, but after replacing the power-supply, the harddrive and the motherboard it's all fixed now...

What if you split the .65 release in a couple of files and that file 1 is the basic stuff and that you can then download map packs or something like that, that way people don't have to download everything if they don't play pacific maps (example).
