I like the idea of the tank sights while I am in a tank. My thoughts were on how accurate were tanks in real life compared to the game itself. Obviously I know that the game is no where near like it was but to me the tanks in game are pin point shots.

There really isn’t much to aiming in game..I mean you can pretty much point and shoot and you will either hit the target or not..the explosion will pretty much tell you where your shot went. I would like it if it took a little skill to get a killer shot from a distance…right now it is whoever presses the mouse button first..unless of course you are in a KT.

Also, anyone know where I could find some info and/or pictures of some sights that were used, I want to get an idea of how they were used.

AFAIK, the sights of German tanks are quite accurate to what they really were like.

And concerning the precision: don't forget that FH tank battles are led at rather short range (<250 meters in alomst all cases and often <100m). A Tiger I had the ability to destroy T34s at ranges of up to 1,500 meters - and whoever has the greater range dictates combat distances.

So those guys had to use their sights skillfully. We FH gamers usually don't have to use the sights to estimate range to another tank because if we spot a tank, it's usually close enough aiming via the gun. IMHO, there is no need to use the sight markings in a Tiger I for a FH player most of the time. I'm a halfway decent tank gunner in FH and I only use the center triangle as some sort of cross-hair replacement. Shame on me - but it works... ;)

Same applied for WW2, of course. You wouldn't use sights markings really if you're so close to an enemy tank that it's about five centimeters large in your sights. Just aim the gun at the enemy tank's hull and let'im have it.

In other words: given the actual combat ranges in FH, tank aiming is pretty much to what "real" aiming would be like. To make tank sight markings more useful, we would need to have maps larger than 2x2 kilometers so that real long-range combat would happen.

I dont think they line up th BF1942 specifications. I know that Sherman and M10 and Jackson sights aren't lined up right and the shell does NOT go where the sights say it will. You have to aim up a few mm to hit anything. I hope this is fixed in .62. Its not a crippling bug or anything, just annoying.

The only sights that I have difficulty with are the IS-2's and the t-34/85's. I can never tell where my shell is going to land.

What are you smoking, The Tiger & King Tiger had the sight thats on the Pz IVh but FH put zoomed sights on the Tiger & King Tiger but forgot the zoom, Anyhow they should put it back in coz the Tiger was deadly as range but now I find it up in the front lines attacking.

All the tanks sights are just slightly off . . . . the russian T sight is my best but it fires low and to the right . . . not much mind you but at long range (my prefered distance to engage since it seems no one else can shoot at range) it makes a differance.

I would not be able to stand having a zoom on the tank sights. Thats like shooting someone in a cqb battle with a sniper rifle zoomed in.

just squint, it works just as well.

I kinda agree, the IS2 is not that easy; but the T34-85 is really simple to aim and hit for me. Like with all other tanks, just aim a lil above the target you want to hit. The greater the range, the more you need to aim above the enemy. Rather simple.

It's more difficult with short-barrelled guns like on the T34-76, the Sherman or the Panzer 4D. You aim very much the same, only much, much higher above the target because the shell will drop at much shorter distance at same barrel elevation.

[QUOTE=Nurenig]What are you smoking, The Tiger & King Tiger had the sight thats on the Pz IVh but FH put zoomed sights on the Tiger & King Tiger but forgot the zoom, Anyhow they should put it back in coz the Tiger was deadly as range but now I find it up in the front lines attacking.

Like I said, FH maps are too small for the Tiger / King Tiger to make use of their far-reaching guns. Then, there's a total lack of infantry playing in support of tanks and tanks don't have effective HE shells to fight enemy infantry properly.

@tank sights: Well, the original poster was talking about if the sights are correct to their IRL versions. And apart from the fact that the Tiger's sights are zoomed in, they are quite correct most of the time, aren't they? No need to say stuff like "what are you smoking".
