Ever since BF2 came out people have been saying that BF2 and HL2 is equal in terms of graphics. I personally have to disagree (and yes, BF2 had to sacrifice some for their huge terrain/maps) The major differences are in the textures and by that I mean, in HL2 textures are much more “solid” and in some cases 100% solid. For instance walking up really close to a player model or vehicle (in HL2) u cant see any blurring effect on the skin, even from the closest stand. Im not talking about the skills of the skinning (wich DICE have done a great job with and offcourse FH) but the res. strength of the texture if thats the right way to put it. In BF2 everything is really beautiful looking from some distance, but standing really close to a vehicle or soldier gives me the “1942” creeps. So my question is, first of all is it even possible for FH2 to make the skins higher res. and more “solid” upclose ? If it is, no changes have to be made to the terrain/water but only to the objects. I think that it would add huge difference in terms of giving immersion to the game. PS: im reffering playing both those games with all video setting, set on high.

Yeah here is a person who looks really factual to Bf2:) I agree, the graphic of BF2 doesn´t make me jump out of my window - as some people could do it - maybe they are tached by the huge "BF2 - hyping-Wave";) But i have to say some textures are nice - some not - i expected more - accordingly to that small game(not many different statics...). The texture format is the same - Nvidia DXT3 explicit alpha - if i´am not .wrong And i´m sure that some people can make really beautifull textures for FH2... cause i saw some that i like more in FH:naughty:

most defiently, the textures made by the FH team makes bf1942 textures look :moon: . but I was pointing towards the quality of textures and not the talent of the skinners.

You'd need video cards with 512mb and more RAM in systems. Hell i suspect current FH players on lesser specs take so long to load maps because of all those dreamy textures the team have produced.

Thank you! But by quality, I think you mean "Pixel density" which is to say, how many pixels in the texture file are covering how much visible surface. Higher pxel density=greater detail which is nice, but it also=larger filesize, and greater demands on people's video hardware. If we increase the pixel density too much it would indeed look very nice, but also inflate the mod to an undownloadable size and also hurt playability. As in all things we will try to find a good balance

The skins for FH2 of course will be top quality, but they will seem a bit blurred when you come very close to them. You can't improve this without increasing the pixel density (= size) of the textures, which would cause FH to get far too big. (one 2048x2048 is four times bigger than a 1024x1024)
But I think we will discuss an idea we already had for FH42 but never revealed: High Quality Texture Packs for High End Machines. Even in 42, you can clearly see a huge increase in quality when you install 2048x2048 instead of 1024x1024 skins. (tested on bombers and fighters) We will have to test Punkbuster issues with that pack though (filesizes would be different). If there would be compability issues with high quality and standard FH, you could still go on High quality only servers. We will see if people demand the high quality pack... if so, we can get it done really quick.

Splitting FH to 2 kind of servers doesn't sound good :uhm: But if it has Disable / enable option like Realism, sounds good. Well I don't know..

i'll demand it, even if i can't really use it with my current rig :p
Thank you! pixel density was exactly what I was talking about. I dont no if im right about this but doesnt some of ur models (tanks etc) in FH42 already have bigger PD´s then others ?
AceSHigh Quality Texture Packs for High End Machines.
Im in love with that idea, couldnt that be modable since theres an option for textures in the video settings. ex. low. medium. high. insane=for High End Machines. :p im telling u guys, with that sweet dynamic lightning in BF2 the models will be even much, much more beautifully rendered in FH2. Walking besides a tank or driving in a jeep would feel so real and give so much more immersion. I think it would work out great, since alot of ppl have already been boasting up their computers (and more to come) with the latest in hardware tech. It would be like u made a next generation game :p FH Devs. im on my knees :bows: :bows: :bows: :bows: :bows:
