Some people only know that the FlaK 88 gun was used only as an AA gun, but it was also used as artillery, early in the war. You can see this version of it on Battle of Foy, and IMO it's much more fun to use it this way. It's got a big arc but it has a huge explosion on the other end. If you get a good spot it's great because you can throw out one shell about every 1.5 seconds.
Is there this "artillery version" on any other maps?
Also, what's the fog going to be like in FH2? Extremely long view distance? Short? Of course it would depend on the map, if it was a very foggy day it would substitute well. But will I be able to knock out Shermans at realistic ranges with an 88? I would like the distance to be at least 2km (relatively) so that you can see things but you have to know whether you are in range and whether you can hit it or not, because in real life, it wasn't just "Enemy tank, 14km dead ahead. FIRE", you had to close the gap to where shells would be useful.
i hope you can answer these questions
The "flak 88" was useful in the direct fire artillery role against tanks out to 2000m at least (which is much larger than more FH maps). The large effective range (basically if you can see it you can hit it) of the flak88 allowed it to be a very effective "stand off" weapon against tanks that wouldn't be effective till a fraction of that range.
I saw the CoHeros cutscene with a flak88 just above the beach as artillery in a high aim (40 deg)... and I thought "What you wanna hit England? That trajectory is gunna go miles"
I agree on the view distance, but the 88 as Art? no, the 88 is only good for AT. Even as AA it sucks.
No. You don't get it. There's a DIFFERENT 88 on Battle of Foy. It is just gREAT as arty as it has a nice arc. Big explosion. It's great for spamming the flag 4 bridge, no tanks get past that
I have seen people on Todtenbroch wreak HAVOC on the allies with 88s as arty.
oh yeah i love using the 88 on foy :bows:
I pretend I'm cooler than AzH

in movies like BOB and SPR ist the 88 used as arty and stuff. and you hear them saying "88s!!!! incoming!!!!" dount know if its factual but im pretty sure it is.
Yeah they could be used as artillery, hence in BOB "They've got u zeroed in" on D-day they had 88 that would launch onto to the beaches, and if you've seen the movie Patton, they've got 88 arty in their too
88's were used in all roles, AA, AT, Arti. they are a very versatile weapon, and IRL being mobile made them especially feared. because they could just pop up anywhere and lay waste to anything it set its sights on. (hopes for towable 88's in FH2) ingame the flak18 (88) has 2 ammo selections AA and AT. AA) is good against aircraft (duh), but its also extremely devastating against infantry. Flak bursts in the tree's will kill everyone below in a 20m radius, on a map like Todtenbroch for instance. (this works on all arti with duel ammo selection for AA and AT, but the 88 has the largest kill radius) AT) is good against tanks of coarse, but is also good as regular arti against equipment. so in short,... use AA for aircraft and infantry, and use AT for tanks and vehicles.
In real life The 88 was used for whatever role was needed be it artilelry, anti aircraft, anti tank, or even laying smoke.
