I do fear that most of the 'new players' coming in from the Normandy release will simply refuse to play some of the, shall we say, more spaced-out desert maps, claiming them boring. I'd hate to see the first two and a half years' work wasted just because people perceive it boring - but I'm sure as said some of the African maps will maintain their high reputation.

I'm personally not to worried about it. After release, Africa will probably very rarely get played. But people will still crave the variety of the North African maps. People will eventually still want to shoot tanks with the hurricane on gazala. Some maps will surely fall out of favor though. Just like in FH1, when a mod starts getting to many maps, they aren't all played. I'm predicting that the ones that won't get played are the ones with better counterparts in Normandy. Say Sfakia, really nice map and such right, however Normandy is sure to get some really sweet infantry maps, with much more modern equipment making it more fun in general, thus making Sfakia perhaps dropping out of server rotations. However, I'm also predicting that maps such as Gazala will stay in server rotations because it can't really have counterparts in Normandy.

Sfakia is very popular, I´d say it still will be played. I see black for Tobruk, Sidi Rezegh and Operation Aberdeen though.

i love every maps in FH2... they are all so well made.

hey Sidi Rezegh 64 might be forgotten but what for 32 and 16? that underground bunker is unforgettable.. (especially with some 130th in it)

Aberdeen got massive tank battles and... ultimately.. boxing arena.

Tobruk 16 is gonna be forgotten though, the most boring map ever.

What some people have failed to understand is that the survival of the mod is not up to the developers. It is YOU the players and server admins that have the control over this. If you bail from the server when certain maps come up, you are indirectly responsible for a small death for the mod Server admins have a responsibility to configure all aspects of this mod, to make it enjoyable for the players. This include server settings, rules, present admins and selection of maps. If I ran a server I would configure it so for example it ran like this:

  1. Normandy map (overall)
  2. Normandy map (infantry)
  3. Tunis
  4. Normandy map (overall)
  5. Normandy map (inf)
  6. Mareth Line
  7. Sfakia
  8. Sidi 32
  9. Normandy map (overall)
  10. Gazala
  11. Operation Hyacinth
  12. Normandy map
  13. Operation Supercharge
  14. Giarabub

this is just an example... I hope server admins follow this.. If you're planning to exclude any North African maps because its too "big" or open, run the 16 or 32 mode!! They are there to be used. Hope hslan, WOLF and all the other main servers follow this, and dont kill the North African theatre immediately as Normandy comes out.

I beg to differ. The most popular maps are not neccecarily those that will be played more after Normandy's release, I'd rather predict the more unique NA maps to be played more, because people will eventually want more of the trench line push action in say Tobruk which Normandy can't simply offer.
