I was really excited to get the Panzer III on Karkov Winter. The Panzer IV with the short barrel was useless. I tried using the Panzer III and had a hard time hitting anything. And when I would get hits, say on a T34 it would take like five or six shots to destory it. I switched to the Allies and jumped in a T34 and nailed many Panzer IIIs with one shot destorying each. I went on to have high score. Is this normal?

Think of the Panzer III and Panzer IV as Shermans and Sherman 105s and the T34 as a Panther and you will kind of get the picture, except the Panthers had some weak armor spots on the sides and rear, whereas the T34 has very consistant armoring all around. If the Soviets had been in better shape to make use of their armor capabilities in 1941, the German invasion would not have gotten very far.

Tha Panzer III was a pretty reliable tank with OK armor and decent but not amazing hitting power in the early war (again like the Sherman in the later war). The reason it was needed so badly in FH is that FH Germans had very little that was even OK for the early war period before the arroival of the Panzer III. The T34, on the other hand was really unrivaled anywhere in 1941 for its combination of armor, speed and hitting power

Is it just me or is the back of the Panzer III harder to damage than the front? I did a test on this map and it was easier to kill a Panzer III from the front than the rear with a t-34.

You have to shoot the tracks. A t34 takes only two pz3 shots (from long barrel) on the tracks!!!!!

nobody reasonable expected wonders from the pz3 vs t34 and kv1. the main german antitankweapon on that map is the fast spawning STUKA!

Yeah my thoughts exactly, just because its long-awaited people think it has to be really fantastically powerful so their waiting has been justified!

The two best weapons for taking out the T-34s(or any tanks) on Kharkov Winter are the Mortar and Stuka. I had the Russian side bridge zeroed in with a mortar and whenever I saw some tanks coming I would drop a few rounds down the tube and often the tanks were dead or atleats disabled. The Stuka is an obvious choice and the Stuka zu Fauss and the 88mm gun on the halftrack also work wonders if used properly.
