Just seen this on the fh2 site; We try to keep WW2C as historical accurate as possible, but we also believe we can do this without using nazi symbols. Therefore, in respect, we do not allow any Nazi, Nazism and Neo Nazism symbols (swasticka, SS symbols, NSDAP, hitlerjugent etc). Images against these rules will be removed instantly by our admins with an official warning! Mod is great, but people need to be inteligent and use the real symbols, if german troops had nazi symbols they should be in the mod, making something to simulate the ww2 and take out parts, just because some people may find it ofensive, if people dont wanna see it just dont f***** play it. When i play "AXIS" do i play only with the "inocent" soldiers that didn´t believe in Hitler? cause if this mod sees the german army like that, maybe better to put italian forces instead.

The swastika is illegal in Germany. Since half the devs are from Germany there is no way we can legally make the mod if we do add swastikas. So, no swastikas. Simple.

Whoever wrote that seems to think the WHOLE german army was Jew hating, crazed bastards. The German Army was not evil, They did what they were told, units from the SS and Hitler youth were brainwashed from a young age to believe only one thing, the rest of the Germany Army was a group of normal people who were forced into a world war by their dictator. Alot of Germans didnt support the war, the German Army wasnt Evil, the German People werent bad people, it was people like Adolf Hitler, and all of his crazy minions that were crazy. Infact the Russian Army was more destructive than the german Army...they raped, pillaged, and burned their way to Berlin. A people taking revenge out on the germans

This is most certainly not true, at least not the the extent that you believe it is. Part of what you say is certainly true -- no whole army or any large group of people can be entirely labeled as doing any one thing. That said, I think it's fair to say that the mainstream German and Red Armies are both responsible for some pretty damn bad atrocities on and off the frontlines.

I think lately there has been this increasingly accepted idea that the good old Wermacht was a peace loving fun old gang that slapped each other on the back, followed orders, and never did anything wrong. This is a very very bad point of view to take and is extremely naive. I think you should read your history -- though I'm sure they were less systematic about what they did than the SS, the Wermacht is famous for committing it's own mass murders and terrible crimes on the Eastern and Western Fronts.

Keep in mind, that at some point in the war, both sides took on a scorched earth policy -- it wasn't just the Red Army. Very early in Barbarossa the occupying Germans in Russia had a unique opportunity to extend kindness instead of terror upon Russian civilians. The Kremlin had obviously been abusing it's people with many years of terrible collective farming, entire class purges, ethnic cleansing, and starvation. Many Russians actually saw the invading German army as liberators. If the Germans had used the strategy to treat Russian civilians well, things may have turned out much differently in terms of the Russian people's support of their own government.

Instead, they were directly ordered by Hitler to punish the Russian people for this war by stealing from the villages they entered, holding mass hangings of innocents who were charged with being partisan, raping women freely, burning down villages, and destroying crops, etc. All of this provided the fuel needed for Soviet propaganda to ring true to the Russian people, and the Germans were quickly no longer seen as liberators.

Now, of course, when the Red Army reoccupied those towns after pushing the Germans back, they committed atrocities of their own both in Poland, Germany, and their own country, Russia. My whole point though, is that it is foolish to think that only the SS were responsible for the terrible atrocities committed on the Eastern (and Western) fronts. If you question my sources, try reading the following books:

A Writer at War by Vassili Grossman (Diaries of a Soviet War Correspondent) The Greatest Battle by Andrew Nagorski (best summarizes most of this material) D-Day by Stephen Abrose (talks about the German Army and myths surrounding it)

Sorry all that is so long winded, but I had to respond to that post that I have heard echoed by so many other people.

People should see that it was a war, people were not brainwashed, they fought for what they believed in, If they wanted to rule the world that was they´r goal. No one has the right to be above history and erase symbols, i don´t care if they didn´t like jews, or if they had children´s for breakfast, i want to play the real German Nazi war machine with the SS. It´s ridiculous to call them "Axis" in all games, they are Nazi´s. What is happening is a form of controling peoples opinion, if i say Nazi or SS i have the right to say it, i got kicked from a fh2 cause i typed the Nazi word. If i put a Nazi symbol in a game am i a Nazi? don´t i have the right to think the way i want? i can say i like Nazi´s, Comunists, Americans, etc... i have the right to say it, AS LONG AS I DONT COMMIT ANY CRIME. If you like Democracy you should apply it. And stop living in a fantasy world of Good vs Bad Sorry for my bad English.

The "Axis" was not just germany it included Japan, Italy, and other smaller countries, thats why they call it Axis. Just like if you talk about world war one, its the Allies and the Central Powers.
