Ok i was playing with the t-34/85 by myself tseting out a map.... i was wonderin is the t34/85 coded incorretcly... becuase i belive it was able to pentrate tigrs front armor at 800m and its side armo even closer. im not totaly sure but i thnk it was...any how i took shots at the tiger and i jumped out and looking in the tiger hardly any damage was done. then i put anoth 85 shell into the side of a second tiger.... it toook less than 1/4th damage then again.. same results... this was a t point blank and at medium distance both took two shots at front and side.. then i treid the rear it only took about 1/4th to 1/3rd damge im think that thats not right should it atleast put flames around the tank?.... feedback plz off topic but i also was doing som shooting and thought that when a tank is nearly at 0 damge fire should apper all around the tank instead of just the engine like fomr the cupole of the tank the treads on one side from the exhast just billowing smoke the front with fire just pouring out the front on side of the tank would just burn on the side ( not the tread area) and so on
Not sure what to say. The T-34/85 does more damage than the US 76mm on the M10 but less than the PzIVH 75mm L/48, 17lbr and less than the US 90mm.
The 85mm should be tweaked a little higher to perform better than the 75mm L/48 but less than the 17lbr and 90mm.
Currently the 85mm D-44 gun does not do as much damage to the Tiger I ausf E as it should.
Thats just my opinion.
From what I've come across, the US 3"/76mm were marginally superior to the 85mm in penetration, but the real difference came from the difference in types of ammunition both countries used. The Soviets only produced AP, APBC and APCR during the war. So American APCBC ammunition was more effective against the face-hardened German armor than Soviet AP & APBC. The APCR ammo was rare for both guns.
At best, I'd expect the T-34/85 to be no better than the M10 at defeating a Tiger head on. Not really a position I'd want to be in regardless of which vehicle.
