The DICE bunker openings and FH spinoffs are too large, and do not stop bullets enough fired at them.

When playing at the German side it is rediculous to see all German players that are "stupid" enough to use a MG42 are almost inmidiatly killed by BAR and Garand fire. Maybe it is hard enough for the allies to reach the bunkers enough, but bunker occupants being shot asif they are in the open is wrong. Bunkers are there to protect their occupants, not present them as stunned bunnies.

Personell in real bunkers was very hard to hit with bullets, because bunker openings were built in a specific way :

maaien_bij_Ma2-2.jpg

The opening begins wide to allow the gunners wide field of fire, but gets smaller and smaller to the inside, making it almost impossible to toss handrenades in from a distance or killing the bunker occupants with bullets.

FH got the bunker model right but the opening is much wider then the real bunker.....see how this opening is much smaller then the bunker openings in game, and get increasingly smaller to the inside aswell.

Try shooting BAR and Garand at the bottom bunker opening, while mg are firing back......

Have a look at the FH one : the right structure is there, but waaaaay to wide. Occupants are targets in there.....

bunker3.jpg

Another good example of a bunker opening as it should be.....small, and increasingly smaller to the inside.

bunker4.jpg

From the inside.....it is the general idea occupants are protected from enemy fire in a bunker.

Wich the FH devs in question did quitte right :)

Yes, exacly! And if the MG gunners in Omaha are dying less often because of that, it will only be more satisfying to knife them. Also being in a bunker should give a feeling of safety... right now it is a death trap (of course this would all be better if those bunkers could be destroyed but i know very well it is impossible).

Pacific bunkers are even worse ! Most of us wil not play them much because these maps still crash.

bunker6.jpg

This is not a bunker......this is a target range.

bunker7.jpg

This opening is even wider then in the Omaha maps, no correct bunker opening structure that gets smaller to the inside.

bunker8.jpg

And this one.....is more like it. That top log should not have a cut there though, it enables easy headshots this way. Behind the mg you do not need the cut in that log to have a good view.

OMG< for once, I agree with Comrade!! OK, back to the thread. Yeah, the bunkers are unrealistic, there were no doors at the bottem of them, the troops had only one way up, via the exit they were hopefully landed at. Also, the germans had fortifications, called Tobruks, which ad anywhere from MGs, 88s, 105mm, or even tank turrets! These were put in the exits, on the cliff, and even on the beach! Also, germans had positions insde of the cliff walls in some cases! These often had MG and artillery complaments. If these were added, and teh allies were given maybe one amphibiaous Sherman to use, it would become a lot more fun.

Yesterday while playing I felt damn stupid that all the bunkers are so small and have open doors. I thought that maybe there could be doors that would be destroyable with enough firepower. Ok... There are these in Charlie and Omaha. BUT these doors would be possible to open and would be more common. They would operate like paraplane doors. Somewhere nearby would be a usable "guard table" or whatever with following function: Press button = open, don't press = close. The person opening and closing the door would represent the door guard :) . Some of the doors could be usable only by the team that is holding the flag or defending at the map or whatever.

Excellent post - like the in-game comparisons :)

The following site has a fair number of modern-day pics and plans of German bunkers on Jersey, which may be of interest to "bunker fans"... http://www.jerseybunkers.freeservers.com/

well mabye some of them arent 100% correct but this isnt the main problem why a mg42 gunner gets so fastly killed then in rl ..

the main problem is that you have several lives so you dont care much about your own "live" in rl the people went behind every kind of obstacle just to protect themselfs .. and if they would went outside the chance to get hit by a mg42 is very high like in FH ..just they werent able to "reset" ....also in rl the mg´s hat an psychological effect .... maybe you have played once gotcha or paijntball and you went behind a cover just to be protected from the "angel fullauto fire" and you hear the paintball impacts on your cover.

then you relaise .... if you try to get out of your cover he will hit you

and in fh you will never have such an feeling until we limite the ammount of lives to lets say 1-3 per player ... and belive me then all will hide a few hours behind their obstacles and this would be boring for both sides

This is a bit of topic but some of the post here suggest what could be done to improve the axis positions along the Omaha Beach. IMHO they should not be strengthened without strengthening allied firepower in same way. It is hard to do that in the game withouth adding naval artillery support for the allies. + (I suggest) a spotter plane

Largest fleet ever assembled for an invasion....
