Saw a pic for sale on E-bay once of a German soldier standing next to a Russian plane wreck. Shot the pilot in the head with a Mauser! Why don't I ever get them luck shots? :uhm:

Assuming the mauser round is a 7.92 mm, I guess that means the glass wasn't thick enough to stop that bullet. Or probably the muzzle velocity of the gun was high. And I thought 12.7 mm or 20 mm had the sufficient power to penetrate glass.

I think he means the German executed the Russian with a Mauser.

J.SteinerThe problem with WWIIOL is that it has a vertical learning curve, rarely ever gets updated and there are never really that many people playing. As a European, whenever I try to play there are usually less people in the entire WWIIOL world than there are in a 32 vs 32 game of FH. And you can guarantee that FH would be more fun anyways. Just my £0.02 of course.

I don't post often, but I will now.

You must be on crack to think CRS doesn't update the game. It's really a completely new game now, with 1 or 2 RADICAL updates per year.

I took out an Me-109 pilot on (non-FH) DICE Bocage once. I was camping for a plane when he came in to strafe me. I did what one does...crouch and shoot at him just for the hell of it. Somehow I managed to headshot the guy, the plane flies over me and glides to a landing in the field beyond. Needless to say, everyone who saw thought it was pretty funny once we got over our surprise. I've seen others pull this off as well, although I don't recall being injured by a pistol when flying in FH.

There's a (probably apocryphal) story about a guy who shot down a Zero with his .45 while parachuting to safety after being shot down in a dogfight over China. Apparently, parachuting Flying Tiger and other Allied pilots were fair game for strafing Japanese fighters; this guy seems to have pulled out his M1911 and randomly potted away at the A6M's cockpit, and according to several eyewitnesses, sent him tumbling to earth. Sounds a bit dubious to me, and this article looks a bit heavily like "wow, look at how great we are" propaganda, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Although on second read, apparently he claims the pilot had his cockpit canopy open (why on earth would he do that...) so go figure.

I've read a couple of interviews with Japanese pilots and it seemed they often had the canopy open. After all you have a better view and can escape quicker if need be. It's not as if the canopy on a Zero is going to stop a .50 round anyway. And the slight loss of speed due to increased drag isn't as big an issue as pilot visibility. Hell.. some pilots took a pair of binocs up with them!

If I'm paying £12 a month for a game I expect it to be updated with new content more than twice a year
