Hey guys, just started to get back into BF1942 (sort of tired of BF2) and wondering what i'll need to get started with FH. I'm downloading the 3 part installation now for 0.70 -- what else do i need? (map macks, etc)

Nothing really, you can download the texture pack or sound packs that are released for added fun, but besides the three parts of .7 you don't need anything else to play.

Just make sure you have:

Battlefield 1.6 patch Battlefield 1.6 - 1.61b patch FH installer part 1 FH installer part 2 FH installer part 3

Make sure you install in that order mate and you'll be fine. As Polska just said, the texture pack (By Mr Cheese and co) and the sound pack (By Bratwurst) come highly recommended to improve your playing experience :).

Are the texture and sound packs a real improvement? I've experienced some pretty crappy ones for other mods that many people had recommended. Not saying these fit into that category since I haven't tried them, but are they made in a "professional" way?

I would highly recommend them. The sound pack especially, as sound is unfortunatly, not one of FH1's forte's (FH2 sounds freaking amazing though, thanks to our newly captured professional sound guy, Citizen Soldier)

Thanks for the recommendation McGibs! :)

The sound pack does add some awsome sounds and I think the texture pack's main selling-point is that it adds historical German markings that couldn't be included in FH due to some countries' laws. It also adds a few textures that were missing in FH (eg desert camo Bofors).

The texture and sound pack are definatly great, especially if you have a system that can play with maximum graphic or sounds settings. That will make you drool even more then FH's texture work does already. :nodding:
