This map could be fun, but it had some obvious gameplay problems too. As mentioned before it usually ended up with the Russians taking a flag and quickly grabbing the rest.... or it ended up without a single flag falling to the Russians.

Still... I remember the time a guy bailed out of the IS2, and I jumped in it. Bunch of team mates repaired me up and da daaa, we had both an IS2 and a KT defending. Needless to say, the Russians lost that game without taking a single flag.

It seemed like it was a conscious decision to make the map narrow to avoid the flanking you see in so many maps. That way the only way to take a flag was a head on brawl, perhaps that was the way it was in reality (as much as that's possible in a game). I wouldn't say the mapper neglected open space, I think he made it confined to promote intensive combat. The same thing was done in Karelia, and to certain extent Gold Beach and Charlie Sector. I think Gold and Charlie found more of a middle ground between allowing flanking and head on battle which may be why they're more popular.

I though Berlin outskirts was a good tank map...open fields and it is narrowed enough to keep tanks in the action.

I liked the map too. everytime i had fun on it. this is what i call battle !! small map, overall tanks, soldiers and dead bodies. explosions overall and an endless fight! sure the map was unbalanced, need to fix. and the lags are bad. but the map is nice. the design with the "Schützengräben" was very impressive.

i hate maps like storm. they are more unreal than outskirts. too many flags, the only think u have to do is, go from one flag to the next and back, and so on! thats suckz. on the german side, u can't defend this map. if u get some flags back, the other are going down. thats not wwII.

Do you remember the map ramelle?? that map was great !! 1 hour trying to get the first flag in the town. very impressive map!! excellent! hope it will be redone and release. and berlin i hope too!

The thing that makes Outskirts and Karielia popular among me, is that they are large, but small enough, so you can go straight to the battle, in a matter of seconds.

Outskirts of Berlin was just horrible. i'm glad it's gone. There should be a completely new Seelow Hights map with some tanks on both sides and without a impragnable PaK-line...
