I've never played on the-server-that-will-not-be-named, nor will I ever; I object to their name, and I object to the attitude of the one wanker from that group who once came on this forum to pour scorn on everyone for believing the same. Unfortunately, they are also very ban-happy, and the idiots who tend to piss them off are also the same "brown", as one says nicely in Germany, idiots who mouth off a lot and then go on other servers.
hslan, WOLF and Pixel-Fighters all have good admins who take care of these guys when they catch it -- WOLF is especially intolerant in that regard, but the others are good. I can't speak for TDP, but I have seen some pretty smacktardish talk go unpunished there, which is why I left, but in fairness, it could be because it's a 64-player server, or because of language difficulties, or whatever. I just don't want it whether it's intentionally tolerated or not.
They seem to be having some other "issues" with some groups right now, but draw your own conclusions.
Hslan and WOLF also have very good communities/forums, I don't know if Pixel-Fighters ever got their web page up yet. Their clue level was lower than hslan's early on, but it's been getting better.
If your ASE does not work properly, you might want to give HLSW a try. That tool is well arranged, easy to handle and even more comfortable than ASE imo. Link:HLSW :: Game server browser and administration tool
ASE went downhill just about on the day Yahoo! bought it. It hasn't had an update since late 2005. Many newer games are not supported. You can still edit filters.txt and get some things. But Battlefield 2 isn't supported and that impacts anyone looking forward to FH2.
I use Qtracker. It is supported. Get it from this link: Qtracker
Sorry, but....
I guess I'm not as lazy as you guys and I actually click on the BF1942 icon and manually find servers.
LOL me too, unless I am looking for friends. I start up ase and use it only to find my buddies. I do like how it launches right into server with nothing else. Either way it's simple and easy and I'll never dive deeper into any of that stuff except for adding a buddy and changing the alert sound. and I have been using the product for 537 days and yes I would like to continue to evaluate it for another 7 days.
To everyone, who was a big fan of ASE until it got bought up by Yahoo: Qtracker <---This is what you've been looking for... ;)

Not Voldemort, but another nasty old man...

Yes but have you tried connecting to a server. Last time I checked upon connecting (1.3 patch) it just goes to the BF2 menu screen and that's it.
