This is the new Carentan map some custom mapper made......not bad, if you consider traditional bf1942 and FH maps look like that too.

But not for a millisecond i think this is looking like a real village or city, and i think most FH maps representing a village or city are dead, empty and very ugly.

And one of the most primary cause : the use of very poor DICE houses and house skins, and always a dirtpath instead of a street.

Doesn't this look a lot better ? Yes, it is COD, a diffrent game but i see buildings have the same physics as bf1942 ones : no doors or windows that can be opened, so all buildings that you can enter have no doors or window (glass).....yet it looks a lot better then the flat, dead and empty planes with ugly constructions that are supposed to be houses in vilages or cities in FH ( more often custom maps are even poorer) !!!

With this game ( COD) i feel like i am in a real French village, in FH currently i do not. I have seen screenshots of some devs creating custom buildings though so maybe they think better looking cities and villages are important too.

I think that the reason none of the cities/towns in FH or BF1942 in general is because BF1942 does not use that type of engine. The engine was made to support 64 players online in an open, free-form type battlefield. It was not made to render huge cities and quaint little towns, and also with the scaling out of preportion everything is going to look a little different.

I think Arnhem is a good example of a good looking, realisticly scaled city, but the maps are usuall not big enough to hangdle that kind of scale in cities/towns.

Well if you look at DC they make some very nice custom cities (basrah nights, basrah, urban siege, lost village). They have a lot of custom buildings which definitely make you feel as if your in a modern middle eastern city. I'm pretty sure with some custom buildings the typical bleak feeling you get in a bf1942 city can be transformed to look like a real nice city in FH.

The one thing i've always disliked about city battles (like Arnhem) is the lack of cover in the roads. It's completely open space and usually the only place to cover yourself is hugging up against one of the buildings. There should be more bumps/potholes to dig into (this would be pretty prevalent in a bombed out city) to compensate for that lack of cover.

More custom buildings would definatley help, and would also up the immersive factor.

I agree, FH needs to improve the Towns and Villages in some of it's maps, like adding cobbled streets and different styles of architechture for Eastern Front houses.

The engine isnt half life, which is the pinicle of ww2 infantry combat.

The BF engine was made for huge sparsly built maps, not closed indoor environments.

Still, it'd be nice to not see the 3rd destroyed house skin for the 50th time in the same area.

We need some screens of those new FH buildings! (Or the .sm files would do fine for me as well)

I agree, they look bad and that crazy bridge to nowhere at the back of Arnhem is just stupid
