The PoE2 stats system is awesome, you should try it before you knock stats systems in general.

And if you have a balanced game to start with, you wont have to worry about stats skewing the game. People will always favor one kit over the others, we all do that, depending on our playing style. A stats system itself cannot promote that, if theres a battlefield advantage in something people will exploit it whether theres a statistics or rank benefit or not.

NTH_NL;3538150This behaviour is not inherent of the ranking system, but is a called being lame.;)

Yes, and...why are they being lame? I've been playing online games for 15 years, and there is inevitably a direct correlation between stats, rank, experience, call it what you will, and lameness. The moment you award any kind of geegaw as PART OF A GAME, you engender lameness.

It's a fallacy of equation to say that an external statting mechanism is the same, and that because of the existence of such a mechanism you might as well have something in-game; there is a huge difference between being able to pull up your stats in-game and having to go on a webpage outside of the game. Most people are too engrossed in the game to background, fire up IE (because people who look at their stats are inevitably so lame that they use IE, take their sister to the prom, etc.)

As for "balanced", people confuse this with "even". You will never have "even" maps -- "even" maps will be boring. "Balanced" maps simply mean that every unit, strategem, whatnot has a possible counter, but that possible counter may be a whole lot more difficult. Case in point: Hell of Bocage. I hate the map, I find it horribly uneven, but strictly speaking it is balanced. Someone paying attention to his stats (or his geegaws, whatever) will thus rarely take the difficult side as a rule. So unless you force people to stay on the team they joined on (lame) you'll end up with a preponderance of a certain type of player on the "easy" team -- whoring and collecting stats at the expense of noobies -- unless you're lucky enough to have one of those rare nights where a group of even moderately clued players can make it very clear that stat whores generally are not very good when presented with some skill and coordination.

So in short, I hope FH2 has a stats system...FOR ME TO POOP ON.

Every single one of the top BF2 players in its stats system are players who spend the vast majority of their time as a member of a squad.

The idea that the stats system discourages team work is a fallacy perpetuated by people who have an anti-stats agenda.

Get on any server and you will see the top scorers who are not bomber/attack helo pilots are members of squads, and the majority of the time the pilots who are worth their salt are squad leaders so the commander can direct their attacks.

Anyone who has played BF longer than 20 hours in aggregate works this out.

Bunny I agree and at the same time disagree with you. Yes there is a correlation between a statsystem or what have you. . But replace statsystem with shinny gold thingie that monkey wants to have and you will see that no matter what, there will always be a object that will atract lame behaviour. People will be lame because they want that big plane with al those shinny bombs. People will IRL try to make roadpizza out of you in traffic, not because it will effect their stats, but they are lame and want be home 10 seconds earlier.

Me, I couldn't care less if there is a statsystem. I just hope there will be teamplay.

But it would be such a Triumph.

edit: What's with this award stuff? I don't remember there being a medal ceremony. Would there be any, uh, gratuity associated with this? You know, my man FBunny and I carried the flag for FH, at great psychic cost I must add. What a burden it was. So, maybe a few simoleons? (Hey, Fuzz, with you being out of the house for awhile, I'll be happy to pick yours up.)

Well, I tried earlier this week, and even used your own sig as my theme. Alas, it appears one of our tireless FF Phantom Censors disaproved of the content of my electronic speech. I'm only guessing since no trail visible to me was left, but it looks like my response to you was the target of a silent ninja assault. The entire post, not just the offending words, were expertly excised, as well as any evidence it ever existed. It was an expert hit, and I am left with no clue as to why the hit was made, who made it, and why it was carried out in the anonymous fashion it was.

Because it was a sneak attack, I was given no explanation as to why something is okay for sig material but not as a post. So, "It's a mystery." You'll pardon me if I forego effports to amuse you. I'm...just too broken up right now. I hope you undertsand. *sob*

Just one quick question: what the fuck is an "anti-stats agenda"? Yes, I guess I have one -- given by the fact that stats are lame and broken in every single implementation, including BF2's, and encourage stat whoring.

I don't care if it makes people go into squads -- it also makes them commit other, statwhorish behavior. If you don't have stats, people won't stat whore and will just play (or at least the stat whores will play elsewhere, and good riddance.) Is this so difficult to understand?

If it makes you feel better, I will PHOTOSHOP UP A MEDAL OF GRAND HIGH POOBAH-1337NESS THAT ONLY YOU, YOU, YOU CAN HAVE. You can put it in your sig, to prove that you are the GOD of GRAND HIGH FH2 KL00. NOBODY ELSE WILL HAVE YOUR 1337 UBER STAT MEDAL SHINY GEE-GAW.

*sigh*

Mighty fine talk for a man who already has an official gold medal awarded by command of the highest levels of FileFront Gaming Forums. Yeah, it's easy to say "no mas" when you already have yours, bub. You..you...Republican!
