'[SYN hydraSlav']Yeah? Give me a quote to upgrade to 1GB RAMBUS (nothing else, cause my MB only supports RAMBUS), and also note that all 4 RAM slots on the MB are occupied, so unless you can find me a place where i can trade in the old decks, i will have to buy brand new decks for the whole 1GB. Last time i checked (which was 1 month ago), that would cost me over US$400 People are so ignorant when they say "ahh, just upgrade your ram"

Extravagant sod! That's RD Ram not SD Ram. Therefore you're not comparing like with like. We're not talking about getting 1337 components here we're talking about something which can give a significant performance boost for minimal cost. Besides you seriously think that that guy's MB can take RDRam? http://www.crucial.com/store/PartSpecs.asp?imodule=CT64M64S4D75&cat=RAM Hundred bucks isn't particularly crippling [one week, two week max at a petty day job] and this isn't even a cheap price either - its pretty damned expensive!

Count Nosferatu Seriously dude, a CPU and RAM is dead cheap these days

Depends on your financial situation. What's dead cheap for you might be horrendously expensive for someone else, or it might be pocket change (less than dead cheap) To go from a 1200XP to a new one is likely going to require a new mobo too. For my upgrade (2800XP CPU and mobo, 1Gb DDRAM) it cost me $350 CDN. To me, that's not dead cheap, but not that bad. My buddy, OTOH, who I have been extolling the virtues of FH to, couldn't afford that. He can barely play vanilla on his old system. So I sold him my old 1700XP + mobo for $50. Now he plays FH as well as I used to (800x600, med detail) and is happier than a pig in ****. That may be an option for you Gekkie, if you are short on cash. If someone you know is upgrading, try to get their old stuff cheap if it's better than what you have now. A 1.5Ghz CPU and at least 512 RAM should be just fine, as long as you don't need uber graphics or lightning-quick map loads. If you have a choice, I recommend an AMD processor. And, as Nosferatu suggests, disable everything you can that's not important (if you use your rig for mostly gaming, you should do that anyway) NOTE: for lower-end machines to run FH well, a separate soundcard is essential, any old one will do.

I think you all seriously overestimate what I'm saying. I'm NOT talking about uber 1337 upgrades but really basic uprades, such as this:

old 1700XP + mobo for $50

50 dollars isn't bad at all! Hell I wish someone could do that for me for 50 bucks.

Heh, really? I had no idea. We were talking about it on New Year's Eve (maybe the alcohol was a factor), I just thought $50 sounded good, since I knew he was poor and it would have just sat in my closet. And he had to dig up his own drivers, I had lost the disc. Or maybe I was willing to lose a bit of cash to add another soldier to the legions of FH players :D

But thats the sort of thing I mean... scrounge around for some Ram, a better mobo and processor, even if its an XP1700 its still an improvement and any rams an improvement over 324. Even if you have to beg with mates or go to car boot sale its still an improvement.

It will run FH, you are very low on RAM tho, loading a map will take forever. Dont expect any eyecandy or nice sounds..

I haven't play Fh in awhile, but it was running fairly well...as long as you have alot of patience and don't go into games over 32 people.

And that's with my gaming pig: 500mhz processor 256mb Ram Radeon 7800...I think, and low expectations.

In a serious note, what the hell effect will updating my drivers have? I haven't.... I think it increase speed, but new drivers always seem to screw everything up. Thanks.

This is an acceptable config for FH, bare acceptable minimum. People with less than this really should upgrade to this level to be able to play a proper game...
