Dime_a_DozenThe most realistic option I can take while not getting too involved would be to remove the defguns, keep the bunkers, and move the defguns/coastal guns into the "Omaha" slit bunkers. The japanese kept as much as they could underground or concealed.

Removing statics is not a problem, you just also have to remove the shadows, which requires touching up a section (not all) of the terrain textures. That is rather easy to do.

However, the factory et al will stay because it takes the spare time I have from remaking Midway, Tobruk, Iwo Jima (yes, the "real" Mt. Suribachi), and dressing up Guadalcanal. Obviously this is a lot of work and these are maps we are all 'experts' on, so I'll need to do them some justice. Now remember, these are all works-in-progress and may or may not find their way into FH.

The Ohka will stay simply because no other map exists in 1945. Otherwise the Ohka would be dead-weight in the mod, and I'm not willing to do that to the person who put good work into making it.

As a mapper, I can appreciate the inaccuracies you guys find with our mod.

Ah, and there were subs on patrol at Wake that did see some action. However, if its such a great thorn in the side, I can get rid of it.

Seeing your attitude toward this whole deal, as well as the news that you are working on some of the old maps, makes me feel a whole lot better. I really hope that those makeovers make it into the mod! :)

Those 1942 defguns are a pain in the butt for sure, its nearly impossible to destroy them, and they come back in like 20 seconds. Its seriously annoying when the axis are up on the mountain as their only spawn and the allies bombard the top with the defgun.. When you manage to get down there with expacks or satchels you just die to find out they just dont work.

Hmmm. If Iwo is the only Pacific 1945 map, might someone (not demanding that the hard-working Dime do it ) look at perhaps developing an Okinawa map? That would be a good place for the Okha, allow for the use of the POA Sherman (and the eventual manpack FTs) and in general allow for a nice slaughter... even just the battle for Ie Shima might be worthwhile, albeit perhaps not for 64 players. (Sayeth the non-mapper. )

About Okinawa...would a rather simple "kamikaze" air battle be interesting? Ohkas, suicide boats, kamikazes against the supporting US Navy (objective non-mobile spawnpoints)?

Def-Guns are toast for mortor rounds, one or two good placed rounds =dead def gun. So whats the problem?

The Japanese didn't use Defguns is what the problem is.
