Our assignment was to recreate a ukiyo-e piece but give it a modern twist. I designed a nature scene with a tree and a rock and then added a sideways [oblique] samurai sword [or atleast a generic one] and a rifle. I tried to find Japan's current military small arms but I drew a blank, so I just created one from my imagination.
No grade on it yet, but the instructor scanned them into the system [so she can look at them whenever she wants] and I got it back for a few hours. I took the opportunity to do a scan myself.
Personally, I love it.
Comments and questions are very welcome.
-- There is a little bit of cropping but was about 1/2 an inch too wide for the scanner.
version 1 - high resolution: you can see my actual brush strokes! http://n88tr.net/images/newfolder/painting1.jpg
version 2 - lower resolution than ^ http://n88tr.net/images/newfolder/painting2.jpg
version 3 - kinda postcard sized: fastest loading probably http://n88tr.net/images/newfolder/painting3.jpg
I like your style, I would like to see you paint a different subject. Good Job.

make the gun more bold?
it's pretty bold as it is. the idea behind it all was to have the painting be bold but not overly-detailed.
ty for compliments.
The gun is made extremely clear via the fact that it's turned around. :)
All in all, I like it, though at some parts, the colors just don't seem to fit to me. For instance the yellow in the trees and I think I'd have preferred a softer or more reddish color for the background.
Just so, what does th writing mean?
I knew it at the time, i was on some website that explained them and i copied the script...
I think [i could be wrong] the one in the lower left means 'War,' and the one in the upper right means 'success without compromise.'
Nice job! Keep up the good work! What class was this assignment for?
