just wondering how you make text transparent if you can. so it can match in with the backround

There are a bunch of ways to do this, but the most effective is by changing the blending options on the text layer. When you go into the blending options, go to an overlay and you can set a transparency level in the options.

Hmm, you could just click once on the text layer and change the opacity/fill %.

Or am I talking about something else?

That works but it changes the entire layer's opacity, if you do it through blending options, you can make parts of the text transparent, and others not. You can do some pretty cool stuff with it.
