They probably had a pic, but you can see he sketched it out at the beginning from scratch.

Probably, that sketching in the beginning seems impossible with a mouse.

It actually isn't all that impressive, if you've seen the images created for DOS games, and the like. Their tools were not much more powerfull than MSPaint is now. Some were even less powerfull.

I must admit that is pretty good, but with the writing tablet, it's easier. But i think that doing that was a waste of time, especially if he took more than 5 hours on it.
