These are all images I created of the Phoenix Space Fighter, with a few supporting quotes. Heres the first pic I made with my tablet. I couldnt find the disk to some special software that came with it, so I just used the Paint Brush tool in Paint Shop Pro, which hasnt been configured to accept stuff like the eraser end and pressure sensitivity. It certianly is a bit different than drawing with a pencil - more like pen - but ow well, I know its sucks, but I hope you can see what I was trying to get at behind all the scribbling...

I've got a somewhat ripped and aged engineering plan of this aircraft - its got dual laser systems in the nose, alternatly emitting beams from two pairs of dimples in the skin of the forward nose. It also can contain 18x2 javelin mark 7 space rockets, with a near infinante range in space conditions (using advanced orbital technology), or 12 nuclear warheads, that when equipped with a booster stage, can even reach locations on the moon within a 2 minutes, and contain a 3 megaton theronuclear warhead. Its equipped with a full radar and infared detection system, and has direct link to one of 25 military intellations which broadcast SpaceCommand orbital debris information, and has a direct link to any required information or personell (given todays age of information technology), and if the connection with space command fails its onboard computer has information containing every known satellite. Its computers also have advanced targeting systems which within 20 seconds can pre-calculate the orbital trajectories and engine firings of javelin missiles which will destroy objects in stationary orbit with no intervention from the missiles on board computer system, which in the case of moving targets can compensate for changes in targets orbital velocity.
The only major flaw is that I designed it with Ion engines, before I had a clear understanding of how they work. Turns out Ion engines propel particles at extremly high speeds out behind the engine, and although its requires very little fuel and can propell an spacecraft to speeds up to a quarter that of light on long interplanetary trips, it has an extremly slow accelleration rate!!!!
So I'm kind of waiting on a new space engine to be developed. I guess I may have enough for a conventional rocket, as it uses two powerful turbofan engines to propel it up to the upper atmosphere, but this things supposed to be a fighter and I want fuel for it to be able to have dogfights!
Acually.. I could scrap those two turbofans and put in a couple of ramrockets (combined pulse cycle engines), and leave the engine space for fuel.... A distinct possibility.. Ok, some of you guys might rember that crappy tablet sketch I made a while back. That was an impression of the Phoenix Space Fighter, which I had drawn out fairly complex designs of almost exactly a year previously.
These are those designs. I cut out all the weird dirty stuff surrounding the sketches, so they look fairly clean, and I also replaced all the writting with digitally generated text for better ease of reading, as well as rearranging the items and renaming a few things.
Some stuff to keep in mind, the rear bottom portion of the spacecraft was supposed to have 3 ion engines in there, exept I later found out ion engines work by propelling particles out the back at an extremly high velocity. This is great for robotic interplanitary travel since it consumes a very little amount of fuel, but it takes days to accelerate even to highway speeds :/ so instead I switched the turbofan engines on the top the good ol ramrocket engines I use so often, and that space were the ion engines used to be is now for more fuel for the conventional engines. ... And high explosive doenst truly do the conventional warhead honor. It fires depleted uranium missiles (i mean sharp pointy flying objects not rockets) out at insanly high velocities in the explosion, causing enourmas fragmentaiton damage to anything surrounding. The explosion itself can do enourmas damage, though the missile's accuracy, while phenominal in its own rights, certainly has room for improvement. As far as envornmental effects are concerned, the very small frags travelling at such a high velocity are almost entirly vaporized into the upper atmosphere, were their effects are minimal.
I prefer the Arrowhead thermonuclear missile. It packs something like 10 thousand times the force of a nuclear javlin in the latest generation of nuclear warheads. Its used very sparingly because the highest powered warhead makes use of many very rare earth metals, two of which can only be generated in a nuclear reactor and/or particle accellerator. A conventional 80 megaton warhead is standard load, and is certainly prone to cause plenty of damage. And for kicks, its equipped with the 'napkin', a cloth-like polymer that does enourmas fallout damage. Plus, its guidance system is so advanced, as far as still targets are concerned, it could fly throuhg your window, down your chimmney, or even kick a football (soccer) under certian conditions. Its primary limitation is its width and the fact that its armor can only sustain reentry without premature detonation (which always happens to keep that nasty stuff from floating around anywere - and yess, the napkin (when equipped) is incinerated before the auto detonation is enacted.), anyway it can only take re-entry on mars. On earth it provides a happy EMP pulse, but cant go very far before auto-detonating just before disintigrating. ... The back is heavily armored against mirco-meteorite impacts. But, lemme put it to you this way, if anything hits your spacecraft - your fucked!! Here lemme find a quote I said in an IM..
There wouldnt exactly be any star wars dogfights, u see the lasers would be fired from as far as the earth's horizion allows from a computer controlled system. Its used to desroy saettilites in a reusable fasion, without costing a whole missile.
The space ship has enough sensory equpiement and computation power to fire its lasers at an evading target 2 lengths of the earth away (i'm not to sure what the measure for that is), and of course if its a hit it causes instant destruction. If its below the horizion you can fire a javil missile which will place itself in a calculated orbit and then home into the target and destroy him into itty bitty peices. OR if you've got a clump of eneymies instead of picking one off at a time, just fire a arrowhead missile and take out everything for miles!!!
Then again there are space compitions were people fire lasers manually at targets, its pretty cool. Some guys are really good at it!!
So if you get hit basicly, your instantly dead!! Lasers will melt through your ship and cause enourmas destruction, you'd be lucky if they only hit the tail/wing complex or sensors/laser nose, which are like the only things you can survive if they've been liquified. You wont be able to get back down to earth yourself, you'll have to stop at a space station and have a shuttle bring your wreckage of a spaceship and yourself down for you. Missiles? If you get hit by any modern missile you and your wingmand are SKREWED. Every foot of your ship will be battered and you'll be thrown into an erratic orbit from the explosion and no armors gonna help you when you'r thrusters have been destroyed and your falling to earth!! And I'm not even gonna mention the nukes...
The only thing really worht armoring is the reactor. If a missile damages that thing enough you'll end up nuking your entire squadron (depending on formation)!! So thats got a shit of a lot of titanium armor, and teh coolant is an exellent blocker of radiation. ... This is a image of the HUD screen (thats heads up dispay) of the lead fighter during the 2097 satellite resuce engagement with the Chinese Space Force. In this, you can see the superb fireball as the first space kill is made by American figher pilot Carl 'Kurt' Donavan, and the conflict ended with 3 of the 4 chinese space fighters being destroyed, their crew of 2 each all killed due to failed escape systems, and only one American fighter was damaged. The pilot of the damaged craft lived, though the craft itself was scrapped, save its reactor which suffered only minor damaged and was carried back later by an orion space shuttle.
I got the idea for this whole thing when there was that pyro contest thing. I was going to do a large nuclear explosion, and say something like 'Opps! Coolant leak!', but I got a nice conventional explosion and couldnt find a way to nicly fit in a nuclear blast, as I would have to redraw it with a scalled down texture and a few other things.
