I thought this would be interesting to share.

I started out wanting an entirely new theme for the then GF replacement community, FilesNation. I like to design a page with all possible elements of the site, and this is what I came up with:

As FilesNation was quite Forum heavy, We also wanted to see how the forum looked incorporating these elements:

Quite dark, lots of green. Very early prototype that never really had a chance to make a name for itself.

Fast forward to when we started discussion with Scott at ModDB about getting a chance to work on the new GameFront, We ported the GF brand over to this design, changed the colour scheme from dark to light and ended up with the two following concepts:

We sort of liked it, and it was a nice early prototype so we built a homepage for GameFront using the elements created:

And actually, this homepage or a variant of it (with differing shades of color etc) actually made it to the very late alpha stage.

After tons of amazing feedback from the community, and the fact that we (mainly FileTrekker!) never did shake the feeling that there was something very un-gamefronty about this design, and so very late into the alpha phase of development we did what most developers and designers would consider unthinkable. We completely changed the design. Quite radically so! And so here we are:

I thought this would be an interesting story to tell - can you see any similarities between the first iteration of our design and the one we use today?

I like how the design has come on leaps and bounds but you can still see elements of the original FN concept version in the final. :

Maybe, but I thought Light Blue Button was a brave choice, being green and all.
