Ok I want to learn how to do some photo editing like in PS and the similar type programs but I'm not going to go out and spend money on that stuff so is there any freeware that is good for getting started? I had a PS trial but I couldn't do anything really productive with it or anything so a noob friendly one would be appreciated, thanks.
You can either agree with meor be wrong.

PS is noob friendly.. no graphics program is easy to learn, except for paint.. just find some tutorials and start crackin'... we all had to start at some point
I would recommend photoshop as well. The tutorials are easy to understand and its a pretty easy to use. Heres a site for tutorials: http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials.htm
I think Gimp is free to download..? Its pretty similar to photoshop, and easy to use once you get the hang of it.
Yeah, the GIMP is free. But IMO it's a bitch to learn. However, now I've gotten PS, I've also get a lot more of the GIMP.
Get the GIMP, I say. Once you get the hang of it, it's really good.
uhm, yeah, the only good free one is www.gimp.org which is what I started out with way back when. It's a bit more difficult, but it's the only free one I know of that's any good. Otherwise, Paintshop is just $90 which Photoshop is a good deal more, so unless you're ready for a significant financial commitment I wouldn't recommend that.
Yeah, photoshop is a good deal $700 more. :p
If you ever buy any program, I would pick photoshop, it's much better than the other programs. You can try the trial version, just download it off the adobe site. But, it is $800.
Well yeah Aero, but you can get it in a Adobe Creative Sweet for like $590 if you're a student or related to the school district; a lot of different people hand out student discounts, especially online when you look (just making sure that you find a respectable one is the only problem). Or just the regular program that way is usually around $290. If you're in college you can usually get them for less :nodding:
I didn't make it!
You shoudl check out Picasa2 by google. it's absolutly free. but very simple in what it can do. Very easy to use.
Picasa2 is useful if you want to mainly organize your photos and perform simple corrections (like color adjust, rotating, resizing, etc). GIMP is pretty much like photoshop, and although it seems imposing at first, if you follow the gimp.org tutorials and tool around with it enough it's most nearly as powerful as PS.
