World's most disgruntled gamer
6th September 2016
For some time now, people who were closely following what's cookin' at 3D Realms knew that they were working on a classic first-person shooter in the vintage Quake 1 engine with a group of veteran Quake modders. Only the visitors of their official Discord servers were shown a small teasing GIF file and not much else, until it was publicly announced that the senior sound designer of Cyberpunk 2077, Bjørn Jacobsen, was hired to work on the game.
Earlier today, the Unannounced Quake Engine Shooter (as it was referred to until now) has been publicly revealed, with the title Wrath: Aeon of Ruin. The game has it all - pixelated textures (albeit on higher-poly models than the original Quake), fast movement, gratuitous blood-stained weapons, tons of enemies to kill (and even decapitate), creepy dark fantasy setting, hard-hitting music... but there is something that is of newer design. The game's world is more open, non-linear and is supposed to encourage exploration, with a catch that keys must be found to unlock access to all areas. Even id Software seems hyped.
These recent times are quite exciting for fans of old first-person shooters. DUSK, Ion Maiden, now Wrath: Aeon of Ruin...
The game is scheduled to release in summer 2019 for Windows, macOS and Linux, while the releases for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One are planned some time in early 2020.

Seems like the retro FPS subgenre is making a comeback here, hope this turns out great too! I should really get to playing Dusk and Amid Evil.
