Just because i care,i'll re-think the plans i made,since i can't seem to find them.
Basically,the idea is that you would start the game out as a simple,everyday human or ork,or whatever is the bottom of the Totem pole for your race.I'll use humans as my example,since they are easiest to explain.You would start on your own home planet,simply performing daily deeds and trying to make a living.When you had free time you could train with your guns and swordfighting,and as you got more skillful your respect among your local town would raise and you would become a recognized individual.
After you have hit level 5 per-say,you could opt to join your local planetary defense force.This is the point where you start to get engaged with the universe and going on missions,and you would be able to accept assignments to,for example,find an encampment of heretics and bring the Emperor's judgement to their whiny little asses(Or their splines,as they so often complain about in DoW:rolleyes:).Every 3 levels from there on out you would advance in rank,slowly going from a run-of-the-mill guardsmen to the level of a stormtrooper.
Here's where it gets interesting.At this point,you could opt to continue in the Guard training and aspire to become a general,which i figure would be reasonably placed at level 50(the same level you recieve your steed in WoW).From there,you could venture off the planet to go and take command of other guardsmen regiments,or even join the Cadian defense force.Each planet's force would have differentiating tasks and assignments that you could perform at random,and bigger,sometimes planet spanning,conflicts that you could accept when they arise.
If you choose to not stay in the guard,you will eventually see the arrival of a space marine chapter to your world.This will be a random occurence that simply happens from the span of a few days to months.If you are level 20 at the least,then you can choose to join in the trials of the chapter.You will then undertake all of the rituals and combat training that a space marine must take,receiving upgrades and implants as you progress,working on your way to becoming a full-fledged space marine.Once you become a scout,you can start taking your first missions.
These missions will be substantially different compared to the Imperial Guard missions.They will be much harder,with,for example,your enemies' levels being about 5-10 higher than they would in an IG mission.However,you will have better equipment and be a much more able fighter,so level differences will not matter as much.Once you become a space marine,which you can attain at level 30(I think it would be suitable if you stopped leveling once you hit 30,so as to keep you from being a level 50 space marine or something)you will be a full battle brother.From here,you can join other players and NPC's in squads,and will be assigned to defend areas or participate in crusades and battles.
As a random occurence at each level as a space marine,you may run into a chaos tainted world.This can also occur when you are in the guard,such as if you head towards the Eye of Terror or the Maelstrom.When you arrive here,you will be affected by the taint.During the battles your judgement will be affected,and you will be given the option to aid allies or hinder them,unlike the usual where it is automatically done should you choose it.If you prove to be against your fellow marines or guardsmen,you can start on the path down chaos.Your chaos infected enemies will notice that you have been helping them during the battle,and will take you in as a cultist guardsman,or a chaos marine.
Wether you choose chaos or staying a space marine,you can keep leveling,and every 5 levels as either a chaos marine or space marine you will advance in rank,finally becoming a chaos lord or a captain at level 80.You will be able to advance in level endlessly,though it will take so much XP to keep leveling you will find it almost useless.From this level,you can actually start to command your own grand companies or SM companies.Instead of taking missions,you will be given the option to hand them out and/or participate in them.You can also lead your own retinue of players into special battles with extremely high level enemies.
PvPing would also be involved here,so that you can lead your squad/retinue/company/hive/ork warband etc. into battlefields with other players,and even allied chapters or races.
dont forget space battles! if you want, you can join the imperial navy, and then work you way up the ranks till you own your own ship, and if your lucky, fleet. then you can go renegade and start pirating, or you can join chaos. but there would also need to be the "God-O-meter" to tell you how much approval of whatever your races god is.
man a DOW rpg would be so awsome, I thought of this before and knew it would be sweet
although there are some nubs out there that think a DOW rpg wouldnt be possible/fun
well see, this isnt a dow rpg. its a WH40k rpg. base it off the table top game. not dawn of war.
WOW cloud nice stuff but i wanna say dont make the melee like dynasty warriors or anything more like the jedi acadamy games you know what i'm talking about right? so you dont just click a button continuasly to attack but a series of buttons to do a nice combo with a defence system that goes on ur skill/reaction time so we can have some NICE melee combat. there would be a melee mode and a ranged mode so that we dont have to worry about a limited amount of buttons.
and cover so we can have some squads held up in a positon wating for reinforcements.not like the craters in dow but walls that you go behind
one thing i was thinking about was to have a mode like savage you are the commander and ur units that could be ai and ur sergants (players who can customize there unit) you could enter the field as the commander of it all and can issue orders that can overrule that of the sergants.
also able to order your units to you that will take cover if it's close and guard you because ur the commander/sergant so they will take a bullet for you.
also some formation coices like a V or an X. That and if the squad finds cover or they lose you they can radio you and give you there postion that appears on ur mini-map and the minimap cant sense enemies unless you can see them.
an example you take cover behind a wall but since you cant see ur enemy he is not on ur mini map only his last known position but if a squad mate or someone can see him his position is updated.
and an idea for orks since they are a close combat race they get a armor bonus as they charge an enemy so they dont get cut down immediatly so they can actually fight.
and what about spells? one thing i love about warhammer is that it has that futuristic feel AND the medievel magic sorta sense so what would the spells be like charges and aoe you know we can talk about this forever i love forums.
and you can have builders make walls and turrets and you can make turrets into the walls and players can go ontop of the wall to fire down on people trying to take it out.
i practically based my commander and building ideas from savage if you played it you know what i mean.
and equipment you can buy it and upgrade it little by little but i dont want some lvl 80 guy taking his rage out or just being an a-whole and killing a whole bunch of weaker players so matches can have a lvl limit on them.
and you can use money to upgrade ur army by getting better armor and better ai maybe? also better weapons and stuff and this all changes visually.
these are all ideas and i want feedback.

psthis is a little idea, the game would be played in third person but a little more zoomed in than dow but with all the free controls of the dow, but, when you go to fight, the view becomes first person and it is like a first person shooter and you change weapons and automatically join the closest 5 or less if there aren't enough around and you become a squad, when one member of the squad moves away, you lose coherency and you lose control over your player for about 10 seconds or until the far player returns through the loss of control, if the player moves too far away and does not return, he becomes a loner, this would not apply to igh ranking commanders/librarians/psykers etc and they could choose to join and leave at any time
p.s. if a leader was in the squad and someone leaves they would lose skill points (see previous posts of mine) but the squad wouls stay moral but if the person completely left then they would be shot (not heroic, loss of skill points /\)
I'm sorry harus but you can discribe that a bit more i get kinda lost and confused but do you mean that you join a squad and they all move around you and one leaves to accomidate you coming in?
that and one other thing when a squad member gets lost i don want them just moveing to where you told them to and get shot at but dont even try to retaliate like in DOW.
ok, an ork bomba drops in some orks somehow or crashes and orks get out, the game for you and all around you including the orks turns to fight mode, where, until one isde is wiped out or has fled, the first person will remain, as the game turns to battle mode, the computer automatically selects you and the four or lessa round you and you then become a squad, you must remain in squad coherency but more lenient than TT, if one leaves the coherency for whatever reason (so someone on a completely different form of the game (Flying mode) droops a bomb which lands on your squad and they are scattered would also count as losing coherency) so when coherency is lost, the computer controls the squad for about 10 seconds as they run back to the:base/starting postition/closest leader etc. when the 10 seconds is up, first person shooting game play will resume and be as normal, if one person left the squad and does it again, they are disbanded from the squad and will fight on their own, could be good? could be bad? about leaders, they are players who have ranked high enough to be a leader or are computer allies if the game ius unbalanced, they can join or leave squads as they like, like in dow, but squad moral (running away my cpu) will never be lost but if someone leaves coherency they lose skill points, if they completely leave as i have detailed above the player or cpu will automatically shoot them for not being a good soldier and the death will count as unheroic
