I am hoping the right people from the following Game developers will read this as well or someone please pass this on.
Forgive me for not added other companies, but the games I am having problems with are from the above companies only.
The time has come for the 56kers (and I am sure allot of ISDNers) to start and speak up about what PunkBuster has done to us with there so call "Cheat" program to the games we have spent good money for and games that we hope to get in the future that are running PunkBuster. And we have to face it, PB is far from being a 100% on stopping cheaters.
Most of what I have to say will be below in the "Support Ticket" to Evenbalance about my problems, so please read every word from me and from "Stuart" from the Evenbalance team. ( please note some things are removed for privacy, they will be marked with a " * " )
PLEASE READ BELOW...
Please let me start of with that I am a 39 year old male from Florida. With that said...
The games I have are as follows... Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Road to Rome, Battlefield Secret Weapons, Battlefield Vietnam, Call of Duty, Call of Duty United Offensive and Joint Operations Typhoon Rising. As you can see I have over $200 in games. I also have 1 Battlefield server with 40 slots from ecgnetwork, so we will add another $200, but that is EVERY month.
Here is my problem... I have had no problems at all playing the games above until you have done some type of update to your program over the last few months. Now it is to the point I can't play any of the above games on any PunkBuster servers. Believe me I had open arms for your program when I heard it was be added to so many games, I was really happy for it, but now it is to the point I have to get on servers that are not running your program so I can play the games I paid good money for and turn OFF PunkBuster on my own server.
Reason why for the above. When ever I am on a server that has PunkBuster turned on I am getting kicked for some reason or another or I am dead in game until your program dose its scan of my files. Main and only reason for kicks is "packet lose". I do know why this problem happens is because of your last major updates and I am on a 56k. Now please don't tell me that I shouldn't be playing with a 56k or I should have High Speed (if I could get it I would have it) to play the above games. Again until your updates I had no problems what so ever playing the above games. I have done everything possible to fix this problem on my end... I have removed and reinstalled all the games, update using your web tool, update manually (by "save target as"), even turned up my connection settings in game to ISDL (yes no kick with ISDL setting, but now I can't play the games because of being the wrong connection setting for me).
All I am asking from you is to please fix this problem. I am sure I am not the only 56k person out there having the problems I am telling you about. I am looking forward to EAs new game "BF2" but at this time how could anyone buy another game that has PunkBuster on it and can't be played on 98% of the servers that will be running PunkBuster. I am sure you must understand how I feel about this. I have paid good money for games that I just can't get full enjoyment out of because of a file (PunkBuster) that is broke and wasn't broke when I bought the games.
I am asking nothing that other would or could be asking.. Please give me a way to play the games I have bought to their FULL potential.
Thank you for your time, Steve ******** e-mail *******
11/20/2004 04:05:11 - "stuart" Note #3: The reason you are getting those kicks is because of BF and it's 56k network settings. BF was not designed for dialup, even says so on the box. But what happens when you add PB in the mix, is that PB asks BF to send something, and BF pretty much ignores PB and doesn't send squat. When the PB server doesn't get anything, you get a packet kick. The patch that caused all this was after hackers found out that PB didn't kick you if it didn't send anything, they could remove PB from the game, hack away, and we could do nothing. So we made it so you actually had to be able to talk to the PB server, and the 56k issue was born. So we caught the hackers, and stopped a lot of 56kers cause the BF 56k network code is crud. We can't "go back to the good old days" because that means not kicking for no pb communication, and the hackers would have a field day. i am surpirized that you are getting this issue in CoD as well. I don't hear much about CoD key packet kicks. That I may be able to do something about.
My response to the above...
You haven't address my problem with Joint Operations Typhoon Rising. Also with the room I had to send my message I wasn't sure if I could give full details on all problems.
COD... I do not get kicked for Packets lose, in COD I am in game and I can't move for a minute on each map while PB is scanning my computer.
BF 1942... This problem with me getting kicked for packet lose and not being able to spawn just started again this week. I had this problem before when that update of PB came in a few months ago, but now it is back.
BFV... I have NEVER be able to play that game after the PB update a few months ago.
SO what you are telling me above in your message back to me is after PBs update a few months to knock hackers off line I am also knocked off line on playing PB server (and all other 56kers)? Take it as you wish, but what you have told me is not going well with me and I am sure 100s if not 1000s of people that have gotten the games they can't play because you were able to come up with a program that was able to take care of the hackers BUT also take care of 56kers. Also... I don't care at this point what the box says about 56k people playing online. I had NO problem playing until your program took over my connection so my games can't use the connection as they need to.
PLEASE see below a e-mail I got from you about this SAME problem in June...

We are working on this problem right now, we should have something soon to address it.
Below is from me, above is the responseCould you please tell why this is happening ever since your last patch?"

So please tell me What happen to the fix you said there was going to be? Steve *********
I tried to send my response, but now the Evenbalance Support system wont let me.
So that is it. I know I am going to get the FAST connection people with their comments on 56kers should not be on line to play games, so be it. BUT mind you, your "smart" comments will not be responded to by me.
Admin... I think this should even be a "sticky" so all will see it.
Thank you all for your time on reading this post.
I'm lying when I say trust me

Really? I have ISDN and I've never had a problem with CoD or Battlefield 1942.
I got a 512kbps DSL connection and I had no problems on going online on any game.

If no ISDN people have problems then I stand corrected, sorry.

This could be one of the post I said I would not comment on, so be it.

I understand how you feel. It was really annoying being kicked from servers when I had a 56k. However, there are reasons for most games having 56k being listed under the minimum system requirements.
1.) It is simply becoming too slow for the "modern" games. 2.) Minimum system requirements insure that you are able to open the game without any problems and make it into the map or whatever. It does not insure that you will have smooth graphics, etc. A 56k is what is required to have the potential of running the game in a multiplayer session. Whether or not you can stay connected is not their problem. Their response would be to play on non PB servers.
I know that's harsh, but gaming companies aren't concerned with whether or not you have fun, just what will make them the most money. :uhm:
Pb is the biggest load of BS i have ever seen. If you don't like it go onto non-Pb servers. There relly is no need for it in server where the admin is either playing or watching. Pb is for lazy server admins. Most games have an option of voting a player out of the map, this is the only thing that is needed, not Pb. Oh and the people who use cable are not immune from this. I had comcrap and if i went on a Pb server it would lagg so much i just quitted out of it. There are some cheap deals on DSL(the cable pwner) for only $30 a month:D.
omg yes. some people in my clan are having these "key packet loss" problems and punkbuster is a piece of shit, it does not stop hacking at all - its so easy to get around. you cant just turn it off however b/c then people assume you are all hacking and no1 will go in your server. *as a side note i use optimun online, I'm very pleased with its performance and their service. I think its like $30/month

PethegreatThere relly is no need for it in server where the admin is either playing or watching. Pb is for lazy server admins. Most games have an option of voting a player out of the map, this is the only thing that is needed, not Pb.
I have seen many players who don't blatantly cheat. They go just far enough to appear to be just a good player. Admins aren't going to be able to see through that very easily. With America's Army it has improved gameplay greatly.
I am very happy that this topic is going in the direction that it is. hearing both sides of the story without anyone being a smart butt, thank you!
This is why I wanted to make this post. I do understand "minimum system requirements", but what bothers me about all of this is I COULD play all the games I listed above until the big update that PB did in or around June.
It sure doesn't make me feel any better when I have one e-mail from Evenbalance saying they are working on the problem (In June), then this last one today saying basically "Sorry your screwed" They did what they did in their program and messed it for "most" of the gaming people that are running their program (being kick or lag).
The major point here is... Evenbalance should have the people with the knowledge to fix this problem or they should get someone that CAN fix the problem. I do truly hope the Gaming Companies see this and really start thinking about making THEIR own program (lol please do not talk about STEAM, different problem) to go with their game engine to stop cheating, this is the only way it can be put under control. I do believe Evenbalance thinks they have nothing to lose because all they tell the Game Companies is " We will stop the cheating"
But I still think Evenbalance still has a LOT to learn in programing (after all it IS the job they have to do) and CUSTOMER CARE.
Pethegreat Oh and the people who use cable are not immune from this.
PB lag is PB lag, no matter what connection you are on. I've experienced enough of it and I am on a fast cable service. I agree PB is crap.
