RPGs for the win. I've always loved this genre, and always will. It's alot more exciting than most FPS games because it oftenly allows the gamer to immerse into, not only a well-thought plot, or story, but an entire world of (oftenly) magic, creatures, monsters, quests and challenges. Oftenly it's twisted plots that makes RPGs so exciting, such as the very successful Final Fantasy-series (which I loved), or the old games like Secret of Mana, as mentioned already. Not only are these my favorites, but they are some of my favorites. However, I do not believe you can prove him wrong, when it comes to RPGs being better, since, quite simply, it is only a matter of preference, and your preference need not apply to him, and vice versa. But I fully agree with you that RPGs are the best type of games, and (in my opinion) they allow the gamer to be immersed in a world completely different from our own, which makes it all the more exciting. <3 RPGs

Anyone play any pen and paper (+ dice) rpg's? I tried to explain the concept of role playing games (pen and paper versions) to my mates the other day, being the close minded idiots they where they thought it was stupid. Zelda is more of an adventure game in my opinion, you don't have the same character development as proper rpgs.

I played pen and paper for a while with some friends. We played DND (third edition), DSA (a German RPG), Star Wars RPG, Vampire and Call of the Warlock (another German RPG). DND was by far the best of the lot. After a while we didn't manage to get the group together often enough so we stopped playing.

I havn't played DND, or Vampire, only this zombie one called All Flesh must be eaten and some weird futuristic one (too complicated for me :P) I got the Starwars source book but never properly had a game of it. I did have a look at the Cyberpunk RPG, but as I'd never have anyone to play with I can't be arsed to invest any time in it. I used to play the Starwars MUD too, txt adventures just don't hav the same appeal anymore when you can have graphics instead.
