Japanese toy maker Bandai Co. Ltd. said on Monday it planned to take over videogame company Namco Ltd. in a $1.6 billion deal that will bring together the creators of "The Power Rangers" and "Pac-Man".
Ca you say brand placement ?? Another huge games company in the making, and one that can, and most likely will, flood the toy market with figurines (and accesories of 'coz) of all it's top selling videogame stars.
Is this a good or a bad thing ?? I'm not sure, I'm still waiting for whatever impact the Sammy-SEGA merger will have.
One thing's for certain, it does break my heart a little bit, seeing (another) of my childhood faves being bought out. On the other hand, this is probably what it takes to survive in the games world today, and if this can ensure Namco games for years to come, then I'll most likely get over it :)
I've been a huge fan of Namco for years, mostly because of their 'Tekken'-series, but all of their games are wicked, so I'm glad Namco will survive, but I'm still somewhat saddened because it's not Namco.
