Source: Bethesda threatens gamer over Fallout fan site - GameSpot.com

I just read this. Apparently, the legal team of Bethesda is threatening a fan for infringing upon their intellectual property, by demanding the site's domain to be transferred to them, or else be sued.

Since when is it not allowed to post fan art? Honestly, it's like Bethesda thinks less and less of their fanbase as time passes by. Then again, the developers themselves don't really have any big say in what the legal team does, so I suppose the devs aren't at fault, and thus, shouldn't be blamed.

"The site's owner""What pisses me off isn't the fact that they're looking out for their trademark - as they have every right to do so," Anderson wrote. "What I'm pissed about are large companies abusing their monetary power, hiring global law firms to go after a fan online, immediately threating with a lawsuit."
"I'm tired of intellectual rights holders--be it RIAA, MPAA or in this case Bethesda--going after little guys like myself and threatening them into obedience. Some people doesn't have the intellectual capacity or money to fight their cause, so they just fold after receiving a letter like that. But just because you can't afford to fight, doesn't mean your oponent is right."

As I pretty much expected, Bethesda didn't want to reply to GameSpot's request for comment – which is very typical for cases such as these.

A majority of Bethesda's representatives are assholes, I wouldn't expect any less of them sad as it may be.

Sucks, because the games they've been publishing have been very good. :/

Big shame.

They have been good indeed.

I've seen some recent comments where certain fans are boycotting Bethesda's income by not buying their upcoming games, to show them what it is like when the representatives behave like tards.

I hope they're serious. Should teach them a lesson if you ask me.

The only boycott that ever really happened was for a Call of Duty game. It wasn't enough, because they're still releasing the same rehashed game every 6 months. =p

What a surprise. Their legal team are extremely aggressive, and have demonstrated that several times in the past. Same thing happened with Mojang and their Scrolls trademark, and that one was even more ridiculous than this. At least here, they have some semblance of reason other than a vague familiarity in regards to a title.

Personally I don't see Bethesda as having a history of stellar releases. Skyrim was the only one that interested me. I would also say this move was advised to the publishing end of their business via their legal team, and has nothing to do with the devs. Attorneys have massive clout. They speak a language few understand so most just sit around and nod their heads.

Wouldn't be surprised if they're still playing when Call of Duty 9001 gets released. Heh. [QUOTE=>Omen<;5633991]Personally I don't see Bethesda as having a history of stellar releases. Pretty much the same for me. Well, the only better game was TES III: Morrowind, IMHO. Best Bethesda game experience ever.

Very much so yes. The American ones are the worst of the lot. Not that the others aren't.

I hear this also happens with IT personnel, once the company realizes they can't live without an IT department, then the department gets a lot of clout.

This is beginning to sound like a lot of companies competing for "Worst Company in America", also known as "The Consumerist's Golden Poo".

EA has already beat out a bank that evicts the neighbors of mortage forclosures, so you can stop now Bethseda.
