Good and Bad, if you ask me. Let me explain it this way: Games like Halo 3 and Gears of War get casual/non-gamers into playing video games. They're not that difficult and aren't that confusing, with not much competition. The people play a bit, then they buy a console. When they start getting good, they want more. Those casual games seem to suck (GOW doesn't count, amazingly), and they want something more 'hardcore', like Call of Duty 4 or Rainbow Six Vegas. I am one of the many people who have been through that. When the casual games seem too dull and bland, we criticize those games and move on to stuff like Call of Duty 4. Sometimes we do it like we want casual games blown off of the face of the earth. In that way, casual games are just for getting people into gaming, and nothing else. That's not true, but it seems like that at times. What do you think?

I wouldnt exactly call Call of Duty 4 and R6V "Hardcore" games. They're both easy to play, and can be completed within a weekend. A hardcore game and one that is hard to get into would be a game such as the Splinter Cell(Stealth) series or Crysis(you have to multitask to stay alive).

Personally, i like casual games because you can be relaxed while playing them, and not on the edge of your seat.

I wouldn't call any of the games you mentioned "casual". When I clicked on the thread I thought you were talking about casual gamers, meaning those whom dabble and don't take games too seriously. I would describe casual games as being those involving more adventer, exporation and puzzle, where action is not the main focus. Even there though the word casual can be misleading. It doesn't take long to find that some adventure games are quite engaging in their puzzles. What they lack in action they compensate for in the need to use your noggin. I never finished Myst Uru because some of the puzzles were so danged hard.

I really, really don't like "hardcore" gaming. Most of the times it makes you seem like an overzealous fetishist of that particular game and you treat it to seriously, like a second job and career, and typically play exclusively only for multiplayer. Doesn't seem . . fun.

i thought casual games were things like puzzle games, or games that are slow paced. but yea, i think they are good. its the kind of games that bring ppl into gaming, or its a good time waster for ppl who are bored and dont like games that much.

I love my games, "hardcore" games. I dig Crysis, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, UT2004. UT3 ect. But Most times I hardly get time to play. So of course, At lans, I SUCK something terribly. But still enjoy the whole "vibe" and idea of it. I have no problem when someone says that they are a gamer when they play for about 30 minutes a day. At least they still try and play. :p

WoW is a hardcore game, the fact you can't complete it.
