how many of you are annoyed with CD keys? i know i am. i remember with the old games how you just threw in a cd, installed it, and played. though its basically the same process now its just that putting in those different numbers and letters are incredibly annoying and with a few games, mess up once. you have to do it again. and other times you have to put in the - things and they dont even tell you. now the worst part is when you lose it. how many of you cant play a game because you lost a cd key? my friend got me an early BDAY present and wer tried to play online and my friend lost the cd key so he could not play online. (the game was rome total war a game that i enjoy very much:)) so what are your thoughts?

I'm fed up with games requiring the CD to be in the drive during game play. What kind of nonsense is that. I have a 500 gig HD why must I locate and insert a disc each and every time I play the game I already own?

That's what burns me the most about PC games. CD keys I understand and don't mind. Enter them in once, you're done, but that constantly requiring the CD to play, oh thats sucks.

You mean the games where you had to check the manual, page 53, line 4, and input the third verb found before you could actually play?

CD Keys are leaps and bounds better then the copy protection older games had.

I've never had any issues with CD keys. It's other forms of DRM that would annoy me such as only being able to install a limited number of times. I've also never lost a key before. All my jewel cases stay in my desk cabinet, and I have both a physical and digital catalogue of every key, just in case.

While having the CD in the drive can be a pain, I usually stay with the same game for extended periods of time.

i guess that explains your avatar:lol: but i have had plenty of problems with cd keys. for 1 i have lost 2. both of which are my favorite games. and i think i should try that, backing up all your cd keys not a bad idea.

Best way of doing it. Backups of backups is my motto.

Did you ever loose the manual? That was the worst.

Ensign Rilesand I have both a physical and digital catalogue of every key, just in case.

Thats what i do. I have a simple text file with them all saved, works great. That way i don't have to worry about finding the case everytime it gets installed.

Having to put the CD in everytime you want to play can get a bit annoying at times though.

Sedistix;4419476I'm fed up with games requiring the CD to be in the drive during game play.

I have grown accustomed to not having to do that, usually. So ANY time I have to, I hate the game already.

However, I prefer a CD to having to be connected to the Internet. Whoever came up with that compromise should be shot!

Hmm, CD in the drive, or an internet connection. Steam is updating, please wait. Steam has updated, please restart Steam. Steam is updating, please wait. Game is updating, please try another game,... Steam has crashed, would you like to send an error report to Microsoft? We're sorry, you can't play this game, because offline mode is not working, and you neglected to pay your internet bill this month...

Please insert the correct CD. CD Not found, is it scratched? Blue Screen, Please put CD ##### back in the drive now!

We're sorry, you bought a Blu-Ray game. You will have to either purchase a Blu-Ray drive, or puchase the DVD-ROMs for this game... Now that you've opened the case, we want to inform you that this game is non-returnable once opened! We hope you enjoy your new video game!

I love PC Gaming, I love PC Gaming, I love PC gaming...

Oh yeah, Cd-Keys are fine. I've gotten used to them, and I don't mind them at all. I just keep a digital copy, and the originals stored safely.
