Now I'm sure most of you will have a bias opinion but I'm thinking about getting one of these two games. Anyone out there played both Civ4 and b&w2? Which one did you like better? Why? How's the multiplayer? Is this a game you can play for a long time or is it something you can beat quickly? Any other comparisons or general info about the game(s) would be appreciated. :cya:

I can't speak much for B&W2, but I can say that the graphics for it look really good.

I think there's alot of replay value with the civilization games. It's not really a scripted/linear game. How you choose to achieve victory and progress your society is completely up to you. As far as winning quickly, Civ IV has faster pacing then the previous civ games, but you can also tweak that to slow it down a bit (which I always do so that my units don't become obsolete before I can go to war with them). I've yet to try MP, but it's supposedly pretty good from what I've read.

This game needs a patch for a few various issues, and it's getting one soon. Otherwise it's really a great game. You can also check the civ fanatics forums here to see what hardcore civ fans think of it.

It's not a game for everyone though. Some find it boring. But me, I find it incredibly addictive!

Thank you those reviews are very helpful. I've been reading alot lately. I've played a view RTS games before but it seems like all there is to do is build up an army bigger than your oppenent and go to war with them. I'm looking for something with a little more depth. And it seems like civ4 is like that. Any comment on that? Does civ4 have more depth than the normal RTS?

Also I keep hearing the term "turn based" I'm not exactly sure how that works in mulitplayer? Can anyone exlpain?

Well, haven't played BW2, but nothing even comes near to beating CIV4. CIV4 is the best game ever!

Black and White 2 got some bad reviews. Its AI engine is amazing, but Civilization 4 almost equals it. Black and White 2 just doesn't really have a story to it any more, and you often find yourself wondering what the hell you actually exist for.

Go for Civilization 4 - it really is the most addictive game since, well, Civilization 3 ;)

Turn-based multiplayer simply means that each user gets a certain amount of time to take their turn, before others get their turn.

Exactly, I have the game and love it as much as I loved Civ 3, if you loved Civ 3 you will love this game. It's a great game with great new features like religions, missionaries and Holy cities. The government system has also been revised to give a more customizable government that best fits you're style of governing and it looks great!

It does! There are several ways to win the game apart from killing everyone else. For example, you can win a space-race (you have to build a certain amount of parts for a spaceship before another nation manages to do that) or win with a diplomatic victory. If you concentrate on producing culture (for example with certain buildings) you can capture cities from other nations without fighting, which is also a nice way to win the game.
