If you are looking for wonderfully scupltered graphics with no good gameplay, look away. If you are looking for a nice military tactic game with great gameplay, look here!
Did anybody else play the close combat series? They were and still are definatly the best RTS's ever! I would spend hours on them on my old laptop from 11 pm to 1 am AM when I was 10-12 years old. I loved how morale played a major role in this game and mass rushes don't work in this game (Soldiers get slaughtered by mg's, panic, and either flee the map, or surrender!) Ammunition would run out in fire fights, tanks can simply become immobilized and be a sitting duck and turn into just a pillbox with a turret.
The factors above meant that the game required realistic military tactics, such as careful placement of troops in cover, ambushes, advancing by bounding overwatch and using terrain or smoke screens to cover advancing troops. Effective management, such as keeping teams near their officers, not sending green recruits on assaults and maintaining fire discipline so as not to run out of ammunition were also necessary for the player to prevail.
Did you know that the department of defense asked Atomic Games to make a game (Close Combat:Marines) to help train Marines in tactics?
Anyway, just wondering who else played :)
Note: Reason CC1 is not listed is because it is only for Windows 95
