hey guys I picked up Crysis to test out my new 9800GTX + and on an impulse also picked up Need for Speed Undercover, both for PC. Now I installed them and everything is working great for Crysis, no issues, but when I play NFS I end up lagging to the point that the game freezes my comp and I have to do a system restart. Any ideas as to what may be happening because I have no clue as to why my comp can play one of the most graphically intense games on the market and not play the other that is like 2 or 3 steps down for the graphics load. It is really annoying lol. sidenote: I can play all of my other games that are currently installed without any issues whatsoever.

Do you have the most up to date drivers?

Also, NFS U is a horrible game. I haven't seen a single positive review about it and it's one numerous "Most Disappointing" awards.

i tried putting the most up to date drivers for vid card in but they screw my settings up and drop it down to like bare minimums, as if i was using on-board vid. I will try it again tho and make sure.

Yeah its really terrible. I wouldn't recommend it for any reason.

With this thread, comes yet another reason to avoid it.

I disagree with the bad reviews this game is getting. It's not the best race game ever, but far better than the reviews it's getting and lots better than NFS: Pro Street IMO. In some regards I even prefer it to Test Drive Unlimited.

There is a performance tweak many are using that has allowed some to use max settings with smooth performance depending on system spec. First let me say this involves editing the game's registry entries. It's best have to experience with that and/or know how to backup those entries.

This is a do at your own risk tweak, which isn't hard or risky if you know the above mentioned criteria in the disclaimer.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA Games\Need for Speed Undercover. When highlighted, the NFS: Undercover key will list several settings that can be adjusted, one of which is not shown in the game menu and has to do specifically with performance.

Highlight (right click) the g-PerformanceLevel DWORD and click Modify. Change it's Value data to 2, click OK, and exit the registry. Note this can easily be changed back to the default value using the same process.

You have way better spec than mine, if I can get playable frame rates, you should too. I was even able to make a video of one of the checkpoint races. Granted I have to turn settings down, including no shadows, but overall the graphics look better than Pro Street's and I get better frame rates. Just do the tweak I mentioned and see how it goes. It has helped players with a wide range of spec, including those with spec higher than yours.

Do you have an antivirus program or firewall running in the background? If so, turn them off, in fact turn of ALL background programs. I use AlacrityPC to turn off all programs and non essential services before playing any game, it can give noticeably better performance. It could just be that there is some conflict with your hardware config though.
