I was supposedly hand-picked, but I know that it had to be a random drawing or something because the only thing I've had to do with dead space is purchasing the game and selecting it in my interests.

I received an email with the beta code.

Schofield;5401875Oh god it has multiplayer? Is it as pointless and half assed as the multiplayer in Bioshock 2? You know, that was the only selling point for Bioshock 2, they put you in the EXACT same environment, let you dual wield, and said "go". The multiplayer, it just... I'm just going to assume it is the same thing for Dead Space 2.

I'd rather have them do that, than pull a Call of Duty/Halo/Any-of-the-other-countless-shooters and go "Screw the singleplayer, we'll focus primarily on the multiplayer". Too many developers seem to be making a habit of doing that nowadays.

At best such selections are typically mere market demographics. They like to offer such things to those whom preorder and/or participate in rebates, promo events, surveys, etc.

It isn't out yet man.... Opinions and judgement are still reserved to only trailers and gameplay and maybe this demo.

If the alien side is also restricted to 4 players, it would suck if they were so underpowered. Like Omen said, they definitely need some stealth element that would actually scare miners, unlike in L4D where its more "SHOOT EVERYTHING!!!" than "Survive properly unscathed, oh look a zombie thats not scary at all.".

Maybe if they incorporate AvP3's destruction of lights, it might be a tad bit more scary.

They're going to have a tough time designing in monster stealth in that one because the way the camera and movement for the miners is in that game it would be easy to get caught off guard and wind up with creepies jumping on your back without you knowing it.

I'm not sure the 4 on 4 idea is bad though. If there were too many playing it would be even harder to keep track of the enemy with good stealth implemented. Any way it's designed there will probably be players complaining about things on both sides.

The teams are balanced in terms of players usually. The thing that I notice, and really respect, is that teamwork is an absolute must. If you're not using team work, you will fail, guaranteed. What's bad about that is that you have the "I'm going solo" CoD idiots that fuck everything up. In the map that's currently available, your objectives are to put together a shock mine to seal of the mine you're in, and there are 3 objectives. What you need to do is 3 objects. The catch is, is that you can't run with the object. So if your teammates aren't helping you out, you're fucked. Team work on the necromorph side is different. You have to get your shit together and bum rush them right at the start or there's a good chance you're going to fail the round. It's possible to win the round even if you keep them from the first objective, but I don't see it often.

As for stealth, there isn't really any stealth yet. Which sucks. The only thing I can think of currently is the lurker which can walk on walls so going upside down can occasionally escape notice of players. But not often. and the movement is absolute shit with the walls, mainly because of the camera.

I would think that would be all the more reason to want you in. Players that age are more likely to tell their friends, fellow gamers, and even random people on the net as you have here about their beta testing experiences. Word of mouth is HUGE advertising when you pick a market niche that is more rave than rant, and you can't deny I think that you've helped them there. Teenagers also spend quite a bit on gaming in general. It makes perfect sense really.

Yes, but it's a rated M game. There's something illegal or something that carry's a big fine with giving innocent little kids like me access to blood and gore and other bad adult stuff. On another note I just read my email, and found this little gem below a DS2 trailer.

Dismember your friends, watch the new trailer now. Work together, or die together as multiplayer comes to Dead Space 2!

That sums up the main aspect of the multiplayer that I love.
