Some of you may be aware of this but for those of you who aren't, here it is: If you are having a problem with either sound or video in a game, particularly in older games, try disabling the hardware acceleration through DirectX. To do this, select Run from the start menu, and type dxdiag. By disabling these features, it may resolve compatibility issues with some games. This will most likely apply to Windows XP. However, if you choose to do this, many newer games will have problems so for example if you want to play Doom 3 or something you will definitely want to re-enable the Directx acceleration.
