In between the two: gameplay 60% important and graphics 40% important. Although sound is extremely important to me. I always thrive for the best sound quality when watching movies and playing game.
Mr. MattGameplay is of ultimate importance. But if you're making a game with lots of atmosphere, graphics can be a bit help to achieving that. Space Invaders wasn't very immersive. Freelancer was.
Yeah, good gameplay is essential, but good graphics can help keep people playing, not too mention that if given the choice between a good game that looks bad and a good game that looks good, I'm going to take the one with good graphics.

Gameplay is more important, though as has been previously pointed out, graphics enhance the gameplay and make the game more immersive, ultimately improving the gameplay.
AzHGameplay matters more, but to the younger generation graphis are all important, perhaps too important. It's like those people who automatically assume a black and white movie will be shit, because it doesn't look as good.
That's an interesting way to look at it. Though really we should now expect game developers to combine great graphics with great gameplay, just as we expect films to made in color. The technology for top-notch graphics is available. The gameplay is just down to the developer and how hard-working they are.
In some cases graphics does. Bf2 graphics , while kING KONG, brothers in arms were better. Say Ubisoft do both, while Ea just do gameplay. to me i want 3d type of graphics and great gameplay.
I think we have really come as far as we can with graphics and hardware. What we really need to do is to upgrade physics and realism. I mean, COD 2 didn't even have ragdoll physics like HL2 and other Source games. The BF2 physics are just weird, and DOD (Day Of Defeat) Is more realistic (In damage and Weapon accuracy) than most new games on the market today. Thx InterNtlDelight :smokin:
I would like it all to be perfect but tis not a perfect world not tis it lol. So I would vote, gameplay matters more.. I have Gta Sa for pc, but maybe not the best graphics card to run it, but I still have loads of fun with it..
Well gameplay mostly matter. But good graphics often make the game look good.
Gameplay. And no you cant really compare the two. A good looking game will not keep you for long if its boring as bat sh1t.

Mr EGameplay. And no you cant really compare the two.
 Well said. Simplicity ftw.
Gameplay is of utmost importance. Don't you remember the old 8-bit games? Sure there weren't other options, but you didn't stop playing them because the character was a compilation of 3 or 4 big fat squares, did you?
Nice graphics are good, but they don't make or break a game. If the game has the best graphics in the world, but horrible gameplay, nobody's going to play it. But if a game has cruddy graphics but awesome gameplay, people will still play it. Think of MUDs. No graphics at all, and people play them. Why? Gameplay.
I myself think storyline and Gameplay matter more. But if a game has both good story and Good Graphics all the better.
