ok so im tired of my stores incredible lack of getting games at a decent amount of time and not restocking when a game is sold out. so now im turning to steam to get all my PC games (until i move back to the US and get games on time) but i just want to know the downside to Steam?

You must download the games, so slow internet is a no-no. You must be connected to play most games. Games often must be up dated to play. Beside that its quite good =D

well the download for the DOWII beta took 3 hours... but oh well, ill download the game while i sleep and install it in the morning. and im always on steam.

If i recall it was going on 2.5 gig but im not sure. If your happy to leave it during school/work or sleeping then im shore you will be fine.

If you have a reliable broadband connection, there isn't too much of a downside to Steam. Once you have a game fully downloaded and installed, you can play it in Offline Mode.

I much prefer Steam distributions to standard retail disks.

I found that alot of my games wont play whilst in offline mode.

You can recover your password without too much trouble, I forgot my password when I was installing Steam on a new PC, and it took only a few minutes to recover it, so dont worry about that.

I created my Steam account through a retail copy, so I'll always be able to recover it, as i have proof of my purchase. People that doesn't have any Valve games on retail is less fortunate, though. I have yet to hear about someone permanently losing their account.
