I started playing this series since #4. In my opinion it has goten worse, The edit mode in Dynasty warriors5 Xl makes you earn the Edit character parts which is hard because there is only 1 mode to get the parts in and its really difficult to complete sometimes almost impossible. Dynasty warriors 5 does offer new characters to play with and allows them to play in their own story. A problem that Koei showed have noticed is that edit characters dont have their own story which makes the point of getting the parts for them almost useless. The fact XL comes with a novice difficult is just retarded if you cant beat Easy mode (All you have to do is push the X button) You should get a different game. Combos have been changed from their Dynasty warrios 4 versions and LuBu in no longer in my opinion the best character. Dynasty warriors 4 Empires brought alot better edit features to the series, but after you conquer all of china or w/e it is you have nothing to show except saved data of it, which is pointless because alls it does it let you go back to the last place you havent conquered. With the release of Dynasty Warriors Empires 5 I'm hoping for alot better Edit features, Better combos, Allow more generals to joint your fight as body guards, a better leveling system for both weapons and characters, and something to show for your victory like a medal of each character you conquered china with or more land you can conquer on your next game you start. If you like or dislike this series/ Agree or disagree with my opinions, post below and discuss these games, and what you hope they do to make it get better. My rating of Dynasty Warriors: 7 out of 10 :Pc:

Dynasty Warriors II was the best. My favourite character was Ziao Yung (sp?), the spearfighter. He seemed to be the strongest and fastest, but I picked him randomly when I began playing funnily enough.

My favourite battle was the final one against Liu Bei (again, sp?), as I got about every man on the map and every general. Can't remember how many, but it was definately over 700.

Dynasty_Warriors_5_13141.jpg Heres the basic look of Dynasty warriors when your in the game. Gan Ning is one of many characters you can play with. The objectives change depeding on the mission type. In the Screen shot the objective is to kill the enemy's (red)leader ( blinking red). There is many things that you are challenged with as in Numerous Generals leading to the Leader that you may have to fight so they dont kill your leader. Also there are time limits that usually arent a problem when playing in EASY mode, but you still need to watch it. For more images you can simply google images for Dynasty warriors. I forgot to mention the PSP version of this game which I DONT recommend. The ps2 versions are good, fun, and stratiegic, but can get boring after awhile, I do recommend getting Dynasty warriors 5 and/or Empires.

Dynasty Warriors 5 was by far the better game, I have not played XL, but by far DW5 polished everything which was bad about DW4, namely the story, how each character mode of DW4 was exactly the same, in terms of which dynasty your character was currently playing for, there was no difference, DW5 changed that all, each character had his own story and game, which was by far trumped the repeats of DW4.

I liked in DW4 that you could have 8 body guards. Also edit chars can go though a whole story unlike DW5 which doesnt allow the 1st player to use them in Musou Mode.

The 8 body guards were pointless, they served no use, but to limit the on screen models.

But the edit characters in DW4 served no role in the story of DW4, nor did any of the other characters.
