Anyone else been playing this game? I'm currently on my way 65,000 LY across the galaxy to Beagle Point. Would have been there a while ago but real life got in the way. It takes quiet a long time (in real life) to make the many jumps to get to the other side of the galaxy.

I desperately want to try Elite: Dangerous, but for some reason I've never got around to it. Is Horizons an add-on that requires the base game, or can I pick up Horizons and just get going?

Flying isn't hard, as long as you stick to mouse and keyboard. Takes a little bit of practice, but the main thing is to keep yourself oriented :p

I don't think you can buy Elite: Dangerous without Horizons anymore. They ganked their existing customers by making it "free"(included in the price) for new customers, I think.

Horizon's includes the base game so just get that.

The way they are releasing it is in what they call "Seasons", which is basically 1 entire year of updates for the game.

Elite: Dangerous was the first year and all it's content (so from Dec 2014-2015), then Horizon's the next year, an so on.

There has been a lot of hubbub over the pricing structure but some like it (and they were rather upfront about it from the start)

I really got the impression you do need a joystick.

A HOTAS (even a cheap one like the HOTAS X) works great but the game is fully playable with Mouse/Keyboard or Controller.

This game is also on the Xbox so they have done their best to make controller support as good as possible.

I don't use anything but my HOTAS but I've seen videos of M/KB pilots and it works great. It's very customizable so you can tune it to your needs.
