I was just wondering, when do you guys think mods will start to hit fallout 3? I'm really looking forward to mods for one thing, and it's precisely what they did with oblivion... Made an entire heap-load of new/different monsters and creatures and fallout 3 has the perfect potential for something like that because, ANYTHING could mutate from nuclear waste so their really are ENDLESS idea's for it along with the FEV vat's they included (as backstory). So, i was just wondering, have they or will they soon, release the SDK for FO3, because with crysis, the SDK was released within the first month of two, and yes, i know their not Crytek, but well, will they soon?

All they said was that they are looking into it, they didn't say yes yet, but they haven't said no either.

They would be crazy not to release the Construction Set though, its given so much more life to Oblivion and even Morrowind still, it would be a huge mistake if they never do, even though I already think it was when they didn't release it at launch like with their previous games.

Anyways, my guess (and hope) is that Bethsoft will finally end up releasing it after their first DLC.

There already are oodles of mods out there even without a construction set. The leading site in that regard would probably be fallout3nexus.com,

You find pretty much every kind of mod already being made, re-skins, UI changes and even killable children.

Did someone say killable children?

Most of the mods out right now are texture/ UI changes, ini tweaks, and other minor things that only require a change in command (IE killable children like Pinguin mentioned).

The true modding will come out when ever Bethesda chooses to release the construction set as that will allow more advanced scripting choices as well as modification of the gameworld. There's a mod manager you can access from the launcher which means it'll come out one day. It's just a matter of when.

Beth is dense, but they know like anyone else does that Morrowind and Oblivion's successes came from the work modders did on them. If they want to see the game thrive, the construction manager is essential. I'm guessing maybe they are waiting until they get a more definintive patch out (In Morrowind and Oblivion, patches could potentially invalidate a mod and force them to redo it for the next version) or maybe they don't want competition with their first DLCs.

So Fallout 3 has the plugin function built in like Morrowind and Oblivion had? I assume that is what you meant by mod manager, Commissar. If so I might have to get it, just because of how awesome mods tend to be for Beth games.

The construction set lets you create mods in the esm and esp formats, which the mod manager in the launcher picks up. I'm saying the presence of the mod manager means Beth is going to release it at one point or another. Just a matter of when they will.

Schweet, I figured Beth would stick with the esms and esps like they have. Good to know.
