Howdy guys,

I used to be a hardcore flight sim fan back in the earlier flight simulator days, but sadly, grew out of it. Now Ive come into posession of a rather expensive joystick and thought what better way to try it out, than on a flight sim?

Ive attempted to use Microsft: Flight Simulator X on this machine before, and it collapsed, even when I ran everything on low. (which Ive never had to do with any game before) Ive heard of games such as Falcon 4, Lock On, Modern Air Combat, but what else is available? and what you recommend?

maybe your computer specs are not that great or maybe your video driver is out-dated, i dont know. you could try an earlier version of Microsoft Flight Sim or man if you have a joy stick, combat simulator would be pretty fun!

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles is a good combat flight sim, maybe not the most in depth one but its still good.

Unless you're specifically after combat fighter sims, then MS Flight Simulator really is the way to go. To be completely honest you're better off with an earlier version anyway - aside from the significant performance issues, with which you're not alone I'd like to say (even high-end computers struggle with it), they really lost their way with the latest version.

I've got FS:2004 Century of Flight, and I've been really impressed, it's pretty much the same as FS:X just without the graphics and mission style gameplay, but many of the features are the same. As far as combat sims go, IL-2 is really the only good option, although if you aren't as serious with historical accuracy as some are (like me) give MS CFS:3 a try, I've heard it isn't bad.

1 gig of Ram, 256 Nvidia 6800 OS (overclocked) AMD 64 bit 3800+ CPU Audigy 2z Sound Blaster

And I cant quite remember the rest. I know im not the only one with performance issues, many reviews ive read or when ive spoken to people about the game, quite often struggle with the games demands.

Ive heard great things about this, shall check it out.

A combat sim is prefferable, as Im a sucker for dogfights, but I do enjoy MS Flight simulator every now and again, Ill look into FS:2004 thanks wolves.

Thanks again for everyone's input, its help!

Well for non-combat sims you can try FS2004 and earlier. Although FS 2004 is the best.

For combat ones there are: Il-2 Sturmovik Pacific Fighters (by Oleg Maddox, the same company that produced Il-2) Lock On: Modern Air Combat European Airwar Combat Flight Simulator 1,2,3. All by Microsoft. CFS 2 is the best though.
