Ok for starters.. Screw Microsoft. Now that that's out of the way... Alrighty so I have a friend that just got Halo 2 for PC. I was wanting to buy it myself and had plans to do so within a few weeks. However, it turns out that about 20 minutes after my friend gets the game, I'm boycotting Microsoft for eternity. Games for Windows: Ok this is a joke to begin with.. Though the only thing that really pisses me off is the fact that a majority of them require DirectX 10 (only available on Vista which is another joke), the fact that it makes it more difficult to use game son systems like Linux is also a PITA. XBox Live for PC? Wow.. So my friend installs Halo2 and starts it up.. He decides to try a LAN game with his brother who has also purchased the game.. Oh ****.. You can't do that unless you have a Live membership.. So they get Live accounts.. A nice Silver account.. Oh.. Well **** again. They still can't play. That's really odd, aint it? Whoops, the game that they just spent $50 a copy on also requires a subscription to an XBox Live Gold account.. So now the already expensive game requires you to shovel out more money on a tri-monthly basis or however often you want to get reemed for more cash.. What is wrong with these people? Is this not as low as you can go as a business? Let's get some feedback.. Anyone else having this problem with new (really new) PC games?

Games for Windows isn't anything new. It's been around since the 90's, it's just with Vista that Microsoft has started pushing it.

I'm not really comprehending your 'XBox Live for PC' complaint. Are you trying to connect a PC to an XBox? You don't need a gold membership to play a lan game.

I'm not connecting an XBox to a PC, it's the PC version of the game.... It's actually one of my friends who bought it today and he can't play any multiplayer with his Silver Live account which was a mandatory signup to even access multiplayer.

You need a LIVE account to play Halo 2 on the PC online? That's a rip-off. PC online games are usually for free. And whats up with all these online registrations, first Steam now this. I miss the good old days without some lame online registration needed to play the game.

At least Steam is free and you don't have to pay a motnhly fee to play games like HL2 and TFC.. That's what has me so pissed off is that it restricts it the way it does.

Funny thing about Halo2 and it's supposed Vista/dx10 only architecture is that hackers have already successfully ported it over to play on XP/dx9. Kind of makes you wonder if the only reason it's "For Vista" is not due to how it was coded (i.e only runs on DX10), but more so people who want to play it on the pc have to buy Vista to do so. Kind of falls in line with your money grubbing story above. But this is Micro$haft after all.

I too am surprised that the pc version also requires a paid XBox type online acct to play. Is this the future of all online games? If so, you can just let me off the train now. I can be happy with SP games, that's what I grew up on.

Hmm? Who released Halo 2 on DX9? I read about this before, but it was in pre-alpha stages...

It's a cracked game and therefore illegal.. You can get ghosted drivers to run it on Lunix or XP, but they generally have to be tailored to your computer and that takes about 200 pogramming hours per driver ghost (i.e. per computer). Supposedly Microsoft will be releasing it for XP in due time anyway.. They must've realized how much of a mistake it was to push vista so hard, so fast.
